What does the smoothing on a dyno mean? I noticed some are 4 and my dyno was a 5.

I think it has something to do with the number of measurements taken over a short period of time.

More measurements = smoother graph.

Default question for people that have dynos already

I looked at a stock tc dyno and the draxas dyno with exhaust. My entire dyno is a lot smoother and more consistant. starting at 3100 rpms the torque already hit above 150 and peaked at 3200 and stayed above 150 until 5250rpms then it starts to drop. The hp is a steady increase and smooth chart all the way up it peaks above 150 at 5200 and continues above 150 untill 6200 which the dyno was cut at. How does everyone else graph's look? I will I had a digital camera to post this. Anyone with dynos please post links I want to see what yours are looking like. Thanks.

smoothing most likely interpolates 4 or 5 neighboring points and generates a continuous curve that still correctly represents the whp, but makes the graph much clearer by effectively filtering out small variations between sampling points.

Default Bad news

Went back to the dyno this time I got 156.1hp and 157.1tq but my a/f makes me sick just looking at it. I run extreamly lean through 500-4000rpm range then I start to richen out little by litte and around 5300 rpms I am running really rich 12:1. I have camcon on order. Wil be back on the dyno soon and tune. Also I guess the gear doesn't matter I did two pulls first in fourth and second in third and the graphs are identical they are consistant except for the a/f looks a little bit worse on the second pull. The a/f looks the same on both pulls its just the part that I mention running lean seems to extend a little more on the second pull.

i dont know what you guys are doing wrong, maybe you need to run it in 5th gear, i did mines in 5th gear and i had 172 hp to the wheels stock. the gearing in final drive optimizes the power curve and lets you get the most potential oput of the vvti.
what did you guys run with this 154 hp motor? i ran 14.2 @99.

what mods do you have? I don't care what gear you dyno in there is no way a stock all motor tc will get 172hp on a dyno or run a 14.2. The only way you will dyno that good is if the dyno is off by 30whp. And the only way you will run a 14.2 on the 1/8 is missing gears with a bad launch. If you claim to get 14.2 in the 1/4 then someone was pushing you or towing you!

Default UPDATE!

I haven't been back to the dyno yet but I have found two problems, 1st I had a vacuum leak due to vacuum hose disconnected from the toyota dealership, 2nd spark plug heat range- I had to run one step colder. I removed the ZPI Crank Pulley for now. I want to get a NVH tester and see if I can see a diffrence in engine noise with and without the pulley. When I went to Nopi Nationals I had the two problems still and dyno'd at 156HP 157TQ.
