Engine Rebuild @185,000 miles...
Hey guys, I finally decided to rebuild my motor after 185,000 miles. It was been put back to stock the last year, but had a turbo in it the previous three years. Motor ran fine with turbo and tune. It was running fine after putting it back to stock until a couple of months ago. It was misfiring and I performed a compression check and cylinder three was at 60psi. This pass weekend, I tore down the motor and found out that three pistons had broken ring lands and piston three was starting to detonate. It was odd that the three pistons had broken ring lands at the same spot of the pistons. Can it be a poor design from toyota? Well, enjoy the pictures guys! Even with broken ring lands, they were still pushing out 120psi. I do have a question for everyone. Where can I find oversize pistons with the stock compression ratio? Or do I have to custom order them?
Thanks,
Kue

The cylinders were in great shape except for cylinder three in the pic. It had a small dent. The car was running sluggish before I took it apart. It would studder and die out when the ac was on. I drove it normal after the turbo was off cause I was trying to baby it so it wont blow up. I started out with a greddy kit and then finished off with a dezod kit with a different turbo. I was driving a combination both highway and city.

Yeah I really want to do a NA build, but I'm not sure about having it pass CA smog. I would have to get pistons, rods, cams, and stand alone to make it worth building a NA. All that is gonna add up quick. LOL!
