Default Exhaust Q's / Precision vs. Weld On

First a question:

Is the stock pipe (axle back portion) mandrel or crush bent?

Now a theory/ question:

Would it be almost the same to just have the Magnaflow muffler used in the Precision Axle back simply welded in to the stock piping?

Isn't the Precision crush bent 2.25" piping? I believe the stock is 2.125"...only 1/8" smaller...how much benefit does the Precision setup really have vs having the Magnaflow welded on???

Opinions please!

Thanks!

The stock piping would have to be bent in order for a magnaflow muffler to be put on it. That would probably require some kind of crush bending in itsef. The crush bends on the PM system are nothing to worry about and wont hamper performance in any way...especially if the stock header and s-pipe are being used as they will be much more restrictive than crush bends in a larger pipe..

This is why we have an axle back made for your car, because of this beast right here:

You can always weld a pipe right to the oem pipe, but you still have to clear the sub frame underneath. The precisionMuffler.com axle back has a flow design for quiet and performance at the same time. You can always use any old muffler for an axle back, But we used a certain model for the tC. We did our homework with the tC for a while and came up with our design because it performed the best from all other testing. It also keeps your tC quiet with a header installed on your vehicle as well. We went for the tuned BMW style for our axle back. Thats why they are very quiet on a stock tC, performance and quiet working together. Feel free to email me with any questions that you may have.

Couldn't it just be mounted like this?

stock:

===( )===

magnaflow:

=======( )===

Basically just extend the piping in the back of the system to make up for the removal of the large stock muffler?

One of the reasons why we have the pipe move over to the side to make room for the muffler. We had a tC here at the shop for R and D for 3 weeks. We went through all possible designs, trust me. :D

More questions:

1. So is it more the muffler replacement or the piping that makes a difference?

2. Can I get similar sound/ performance from welding on the Magnaflow?

Just trying to save a few bucks if possible.

1: Both, the pipe design was made in three different ways and we found with less bends came performance.

2. No, all magnaflow mufflers sound different with models.

Trying to save a few bucks can also hurt you in the end sometime. Just a little point when it somes to exhaust.

The better flowing muffler and larger piping will both help to add some pwer. Whether you want to cut apart the stock stuff and have something fabbed up or go with a premade solution, but if you call around for quotes you will be able to see your costs will likely be.

I might just be sounding like a total moron, so excuse me, but is everyone saying you have to mod your pipes to get the magnaflow to fit or is he just trying to do something different with a magnaflow exhaust?

I just want to throw on a high flow muffler on to the stock pipes. Also wondering whether I'll get the same effect as purchasing the Precision Muffler axle back.

Shipped to you is 305.00 and we can get it to you asap, just click the buy now on our website.

goingcarcrazy- In some cases you do have to mod up something for an aftermarket to fit properly. It all depends on the muffler size and how you want it to fit on your car.

figured this would be a good place to dispute this question since stylis checks in"

in you opinion which cat back is better Creative Compacts or Precision Muffler. i like both, but am a little iffy on the CC because it has a u bend before it goes to the muffler while PM is straight... shouldnt exhaust have as least bends as possible?

straight^^^

u bend?

I wouldnt worry about the larger u-bend in the CC system causing any HP loss at all. In the end the muffler will flow a lot better than stock along with the larger piping. The crush bends of the PM will cause about as much loss as the longer u bend in the CC...zero

I am respectful to all other exhaust companies, so I will NOT put down anyones product here on Scionlife. As a salesman my product is always the best :D , but I will never say anything bad about anybody's exhaust product.

hey stylis... when you say thst your asxle back keep the TC quiet even "with" a header.. how quiet..? im not sure if you have heard the TRD exhaust on a otherwise factory exhaust... it isn't too loud.. in fact.. for me that was just on the threshhold....

Its always different to some people, on one hand it may be the sound YOU are looking for. But to others it is too loud. This is the thing that I have to worry about when building systems. I have heard the TRD on a tC with a header, in MY opinion I don't like it. But to others its just what they were looking for. So my axle back would make your car sound quieter to you, but thats not what you want. So differences of opinion would play a role here, but thats ok. So thats why I say that our system can make the tC quiet with a header because I know that it will, even quieter than the TRD. I hope this helps you understand where I am coming from. :D

even quieter than the TRD.
that is exactly what im looking for.. what would you recommend for rasp..? i know everyone talks about a resonator... so i would assume.. it would be removing the factory resonator and installing a different one.

i completely understand what you mean about opinions..

I run the PM with a megan racing header and everyone loves the sound... people ask me all the time how I got that sound with a header.

Just heard the megan racing header with the TRD exhaust pulling away from a scion dealer day and EVERYONE cringed... it was truely painful.
