Its cool, I got a CEL, ended up being an 0420 which has something to do with the cat. Turns out the Cat died and that the cold air intake I have actually prolonged the life of it because it made the air cooler going into the cat.

po420 codes are federally mandated warranteable for 10 years 80,000miles. put your stock intake back on and take it to a dealer they will give you a free cat. BTW if you dont do this when its time to test fr emmisions you will have to buy a cat and they are 1200$ from toyota

^ unfortunatly thats not true. They warrantied it out. They said it was caused by the detergents in the gas and that the intake made it last longer because it kept cooler air going through it. Thats exactly what the service manager told me.

It did niether. The cat failed, simple as that, unless you had some sort of MAF issue making it run lean. But I doubt that either. If it were running that lean, you would have seen a code then. A CAI intakes air from a little forward and a little lower in the same compartment (the fender). The air is going to be marginally cooler. Not enough to "save" your cat. Just another case of a tech not knowing what they are talking about. And on top of that, the air hitting the cat is AFTER the combustion process, not after the intake. Tell them to stop smoking crack... but at least they didnt blame it on the cai.
If you draw cooler air into the engine, it is more dense, so the ECU can dump more fuel (keeping ratios in check, not making it run lean or rich), thus allowing for more power. So lean/rich isnt the issue as long as something else isnt wrong.

So I ended up installing the stock intake again b/c I was told that that's what's causing the CEL (very small leak in the evap), and long and behold - a week later, the CEL is back. I took it to the dealer
They are replacing my charcoal filter under warranty.
Could this malfunction in the charcoal filter have anything to do with the intake? It sounds like I can put it back on with no problems if it didn't cause the malfunction with the charcoal filter....what do you all think?

The one for the tank vent? If so, it is possible I believe to soak that canister if you fill the tank all the way up into the spout. So that may have happened and caused the issue.

Nah, I never fill up past the click off. In fact, i'm the kind of person that gives dirty looks to people who find the need to top off....

Oh, well mine wasn't on backwards or anything. In fact, everything looks perfect.
In any case, the CEL is back, the charcoal canister didn't fix the problem and now they are going to smoke the system. I will keep you all updated so that if anyone else has this problem, the solution can be known!

yea...you can just go to autozone to get it read for free, but the dealer has been working on my car, so they have of course been reading the same annoying code - 'very small leak in the evap'

I've brought it in 5 times now. They haven't run the smoke test yet though, and that should find the problem where the leak is...hopefully. Bottom line, they will fix it. At this point, I have a loaner car immediately for as long as I need it and my next service of up to $1000 is free!! Anyway, I like my car and have worked hard on it, I dont want to lemon it! lol

So I finally got the car back after having a loaner for about 2 days. Now i'm not saying that the cel won't come back, we will have to wait and see, but they gave me 2 new parts under warranty:
1) Yet another new charcoal canister
2) A new fuel filler neck
Now I don't know exactly what the fuel filler neck is, but apparently the part is on backorder for about 3 months. So what they did, is took a tC off the lot, put it on the lift, and removed that fuel filler neck for me. Hopefully this will fix it and hopefully this won't be a problem that anyone else comes across.
