I drive much more consistent than I used to. I try not to accelerate more than needed and on the highway I drive 55-65. There is just no use to go faster than that. I almost always end up right with the people that blow buy me in their big SUVs within a few miles because they haven't figured out that traffic always equals out no matter ow fast you drive.

there are SOOO many wrong myths in this thread.. holy cow.

Arco does NOT put water in their gas. It's the SAME GAS everyone else gets it from. The difference is they don't add all the fancy additives, and they sell more volume. Thus their prices are cheaper. Arco is owned by BP (British Petroleum) and they get their gas from BP and oftentimes sell it to other companies.

Read this: http://www.vettenet.org/octane.html

"Brand of gasoline:
Some of you probably know this, others may be shocked by it. Oil companies swap base gasoline all the time. Let's say I have a refinery in Houston and you have one in Dallas. It makes little sense for me to truck my Houston gasoline to Dallas and for you to truck your gasoline from Dallas to Houston when gasoline is a commodity product. So, I let you draw 100,000 gallons of base gasoline from my storage tank in Houston for your Houston gas stations, and you let me draw 100,000 gallons of base gasoline from your Dallas holding tanks for my Dallas gas stations. That way, we both save on shipping. Yup, Texaco gasoline may have come from a Shell refinery and vice-versa. At a gasoline terminal you may see trucks from up to six different companies all loading at the SAME terminal (that for example may be supplied exclusively by Shell). What comes next, however, is what makes Texaco Texaco and Shell Shell. Additive. Each company has its own additive and adds it to the base gasoline. So while the base gasoline may be the same, the additive is different, and hence the brand of gasoline you use is different because of the additive, not the base gasoline."

Jon, I don't know about ALL Arco gas stations, but the one my dad's friend owns has water in all there octanes, he told me straght out.( this was like 3 years ago)

And it is not illegal to have water in them, there is a certain percentage that is allowed and will still comply with the regulations (I think it has to be less than an inch of water in the tanks)
How do I know this? Because I work at Mobil gas station

I used to work at an Arco back in high school and the owner would go next door to the Shell to fill up.

Wow. So many who know nothing have convinced themselves that they do. First of all, you can't just put water in gasoline. Second of all, all gasoline purchased in the US is required to have additives. Here's an idea, instead of just pretending to know something, you actually find out. Foreign concept, I know. I'm sure " Hey son's friend, I put water in my gas." Just came up in natural conversation too, huh? "Hey, c'mere! I wanna tell you all of my dirty secrets involving my gas! Don't tell anyone though "
Water will, and had destroyed engines. They don't actively put water in gas tanks to dilute the fuel to make more money. If they do have water in the gas, it's because they have faulty tanks or pumps.

Not sure anybody's suggesting that however ground water seepage is still a thing. Low profit-margin = low maintenance.
