Default Headers / legal / non-legal

Hi to everyone, this is my very first post. I dont own a tC but i will soon. I have been browseing threw the diffrent tC website looking for things that i can do to the car when i get it. I saw on the "tctunerz" web site that thyey offer 3 diffrent headers:

Alphawerks
DC Sports
Megan Racing

I saw that there is a big diffrence in pricing, but what caught my attention is that under the description of the DC headers it said it was not street legal. How is this so, as you can see i dont know much about this but how is 1 legal and the other 1 not???
Also i see that the alphawerks "They come with our exclusive OEM mounting brackets", the megan says oem and the Dc for racing only.

Can someone please explain the diffrence to me and if DC is racing only and i put it in the car can it pass inspection? also are ther stronger engine mounts for the car??

thanks

Anthony

First off, do NOT buy anything from tCtunerz.

The Alphawerks and DC Headers are for "off-road use" only. What this means is the headers did not pass CARB regulations for emissions and will not pass a visual and/or emissions test. Check your state laws, does your state do visual inspections on new cars? Do they do emissions inspections on new cars? Knowing your state's inspection laws help.

The Megan header does no eliminate the primary cat on this car, so they claim it is street-legal, but there have been issues with their cats linings falling out and getting stuck in the exhaust and causing rattles. They were supposed to have this fixed this summer with a revised model.

If your state does not do emissions testing on new cars, by all means get the Alphawerks header (just NOT from tCtunerz). If they do, wait until Megan comes out with their revised model that doesn't fail or wait for another manufactuer altogether that has a cat on the header.

Hope this helped.

the cat is on the header in the tc. none of the aftermarket headers has a cat on it that would make the thing legal-megan was supposed to have it, but their cat like jmiller said ended being crap-the things would fall out. if u have to, remove the header when u go for emissions. i'm gonna probably end up doing that exact thing. ny emissions are a pain in the ___, but not nearly as bad as cali-cali's just all f-ed up.

theres just be a lot of talk about tctunnerz, that they have horrable customer service and poor shipping standards. Apparently some people failed to get their parts months and months after they ordered them.

We know, no one's used header's' as meaning more than one on a car. We say header's' as in more than one company. Honestly people it's a forum, not an english class.

Well thanks for ur answers.

Now is it hard to get caught using these headers on the street seeing that they are not legal. How would you get past inspection when the time comes. I would be putting these on my street car and wanna get all the info before i do anything.

If you are that worried about passing inspection, just keep your stock header and when it's inpsection time, just swap the stock header back.

To avoid getting caught with one you'll need a good exhaust muffler to mask the sound.

alot of parts you buy for your cars are not "street legal". If you read any law book out there. Any aftermarket part is breaking the law. I dont know of any cop or state that really inforces it. I have a couple really good state officers and they say they can write you a ticket if you change the wheels and tires of the vehicle. I think alot of manufactures put that on there stuff to cover there butt.
Yo put it into perspective I had a truck lifted at a shop. I had to sign a waiver saying the truck wasnt recommended for street use. All it does is cover there butt if something ever comes up and someone trys putting it on them.
