Default high rpms in 5th

so i was just wondering if anyone else has the same thing as me. when im cruising on the interstate going about 70-75mph in 5th gear, im hitting about 4k rpms which to me seems unusually high. in previous manual cars ive driven, cruising at that speed in 5th is usually somewhere around 3-3.5k rpms. i dont know if its something im doing or if its the engine/transmission or what. any help?

Are you new to TC? By the time I drive my car 70 MPH someone will have posted already. I am pretty sure my car is not at 4K RPM even when driving 80.
*This is not a confirmed answer though*

i just bought my 07 tc a couple weeks ago used. ive previously driven a toyota celica, 2000 model year i think, also manual as well as a 2010 civic automatic and a 2000 automatic honda accord. on all of them i never was revving that high while cruising at those speed in the highest gear.

the tC has really short gearing for quicker acceleration. as a result, it is at higher rpms for cruising speeds, the downside is lower highway gas mileage, the upside is quick passing power without always needing to down shift.

4K RPMs would be at about 83mph i believe.

3600-3800 for 73-76MPH. It's normal.

Not normal. I drive 80 all the time on road trips, it's usually 3600rpm, 75 is 3400, 70 is about 3300, 60 is barely at 3000.

Speedometer could be reading slow. Did you verify your speed with a GPS?

if you have a android powered phone or know a buddy that has one. download a app called speed HUD. turn it on and go for a ride and see what your gps speed is vs your obd2 speed. i know in my 06 M/T tc i have a speed variance .4 mph at speeds below 55 and 1.2 at speeds 55-76. and around 2.2-2.6 variance at speeds 76-100. i think we are going to see ever so slight variations because each car is ever so slightly differant based on tires and what they are filled with, rim types, mods, spoiler or a wing vs not having one.

1 - Do you have auto tranny? Then it's different final drive.
2 - Do you have aftermarket tires OR rims? Your RPMs would not match your speedometer.

Get used to it, minhpho, it's NORMAL. You only have FIVE gears on a TC 1st gen. Don't get me wrong, the tranny is strong; unlike the infamous "3rd gear grinds" Honda B-series motor has... i think it even carried over to some k20 motors lol

just verified this morning on the drive to work for ya minhpho...

at 65mph I'm at 3000-3100 rpm, and at 75mph I'm at 3450rpms.

I'm on 225/45/17 tires on stock rims so i'm off stock speed by about 0.87% vs stock 215/45/17 tires.

So it's normal. If you don't like that; search for an "e351 transmission swap"

So I did a little analyzing myself... i came up with this.
Done in 5th with a/c on cruise control mph. Used ScanGauge for numbers.
Details: '09 5spd. 255/40/17 tires.
65:2952
70:3176
75:3387
80:36XX (couldn't be at this speed for too long)

I can't see how you're at 4k doing 70...
