Default How To Install An Apexi S-AFC II On Your Scion tC

Many people do basic bolt-ons and expect to see very impressive gains in power, but are disappointed when they see like 3 HP on the dyno. That’s when the Apexi S-AFCII comes in handy. The controller is tapped into the ECU and fools the computer to add or take more fuel out at different RPMs. Which means you can achieve an ideal Air/Fuel ratio and actually see your bolt-ons true power. Many have tried to install it on the Scion tC but have had many problems. So, here is a basic "How To Guide" on installing it on the Scion tC. I did tons of research and got many CEL lights but now its perfect. I even met a guy at AutoZone that use to work at Sound Performance. He helped build Larry’s Supra and he knew how to get the controller to work on the Scion tC. So, lets get to work
"I am not responsible for any damage this dose on your car"

1)First you need to remove the glove box. You need to push both sides in and pull.

2)Unclip the little weight on the right side.

3)Now, you can see the ECU.

4)Open your Wiring Diagram Book that is included with the Apexi S-AFCII and turn to page 27. Look at the third box which is labled T11-C. Thats the diagram you will need to use.

5)Locate the wires on the ECU by using the wiring diagram.

6)Attach the S-AFC II to the ECU by using the provided clips and electrical tape.
ECU S-AFC II
Throttle Signal -- Gray
Knocking Signal -- Purple
AirFlow Signal -- Yellow In
AirFlow Signal -- Yellow Out
Ground -- Black
Ground -- Brown
RPM -- Green
IG Power -- Red

7) Now you are done hooking up all the wires.

Now, put the glove box back in and decide where you would like to put the controller. I decided to put mine in the little cubby. Drill a hole so the S-AFCII wires can come through.

9)Use velcrow to mount the S-AFCII to the top of the cubby.

10) Now, it's setup time. Turn to page 13 in the Instructional manual that came with the controller. Here are some things you need to know.
Sensor Type: hotwire
Throttle Sensor Type: Arrow Up
Number of Cylinders: 4

11)After the setup stage is done its time to tune the car.

My tuning settings:
12)Go to Settings, Then Hi-Thrtl
4000 RPMs 0%
4600 RPMs -18%
5200 RPMs -18%
5800 RPMs -18%
6400 RPMs -18%
7000 RPMs -18%

13) Now, go to settings, Then Low-Thrtl
5200 RPMs 0%
5800 RPMs 0%
6400 RPMs +15%

14) If you decide to go to the dyno to get a better tune, remember not to tune below 4000 RPMs or you will get a CEL light.

15) Now, you are finished! Have fun tuning your S-AFC II and report back with you results. We can all work together to come up with the best possible tune for NA tC's.

[/u][/list]
Now, its time to go play my XBox 360 Call of Duty 2 Here I Come!!!!!

your old post

1) First you need to find the ECU which is behind the glove box. Go ahead and pop it off along with the bottom part below the glove box. Then you should see the ECU.

2)Now, open up the Apexi SAFC II box and locate the SUPER AIR FLOW CONVERTER II WIRING DIAGRAM BY MODEL. Turn to page 27 and look for the diagram labeled T11-c. This will be the diagram you will need to use when hooking up the wires correctly.

3)Now locate the SAFC II controller wires that are located at the end of where the controller plugs into. Here is a listing for which wire is for what by color.......
Purple: Knocking Signal
Green: RPM
Red: IG Power
Brown and Black: Ground
Gray: Throttle Signal
Yellow out and White In: Airflow Signal

4) Splice the wires that match the colors to what its labeled in the manual. (i.e. Since purple is Knocking Signal, splice the knocking signal wire and use the connectors included with the SAFC II to connect the purple wire to your ECU)

5) After all wire are connected use electrical tape to ensure connection.

6)Replace the glove box and bottom part or the glove box too.

7)Now, drill a hole in the cubby below the clock on the dashboard. This is where you will run the wires to the SAFC II. Use some velcrow and place the SAFC II controller to the top. Now you are done installing the SAFC II

8 ) DO NOT START YOU CAR. Turn the key to accessaries and start the setup.

9) Here is what I used for my setup and was able to get the controller to work perfectly.
Sensor Type: Hotwire
Cylinders: 4
In: 01
Out: 01

After setting these you can start the car and set the knocking sensor.

10) Now you are done with the setup and installation. Now its time for the tuning part.

11) When tuning the SAFC II you need to do it at 4800 rpm under full throttle. This is the only way so you don't have all the problems I had.

12) Here you guy. Now use the data file and go have some fun tuning. Let me know what kind of results you guys get and i can also do a write up on the tuning portion if you guys want.

13) DON'T RUN ANYTHING OTHER THEN PREMIUM GAS AFTER YOU HAVE THE SAFC II TUNED

So you have to count on the ECU till 4000 and then you can modify the settings for balanced A/F past that point? Bummer. Didn't someone come up with a go-around, just not tell anyone about it?

Also, did you do your tune on a DYNO with and A/F guage? I'm curious...

If they did figure it out, it'd be a stupid A move to not help out other tuners with the info, as It'd help and INSANE amount....

I wonder when they'll release it, if they've got it figured out?

and asuming your safcII is the same size as the rsm i had you should be able to shove it in that cubby hole with out it sliding around it should hold nice and tight

ignore the tape in the pic i took it off and it still held find and also despite how it looks you can still see it fine

The reason you dont want to make any changes before 4000 RPMS or 85% throttle is the CEL and the fact that if you make changes for everyday driving, the ECU will relearn whatever modifications you made with the SAFC II

So what type of perfomance #s are we talking here and what was the overall cost and time to install? Is this the best one or is something else out that doesn't have these issues?

well we usealy get these apexi products on ebay for about 150 in good condition just have to wait they show up at that price every 2 weeks or so

and as far as other options the greedy emanage and the unichip do almost the same thing but with more options most of us wont use

and #'s we dont know yet probly not more then maybe 5whp if that but how knows with the right mods and a good tuner im sure you can pull more

Does it hurt gas mileage or the engine?

It shouldn't hurt gas mileage...

But, It Will hurt your engine if you don't tune it right... you can run way too rich or too lean and that is not a fun thing to do....

Tune on a dyno with an A/F to get your safest and best results!
