Hybrid CAI AEM & K&N
Wisconsin winters arent something to mess around with and I dont feel like taking my CAI off and on for 3mo's of summer each yr, SO! Since I went ahead and bought the K&N CAI I decided to add AEM's 3" bypass valve to it and make it winter safe.
And if that doesnt want to make you want a alphawerks header I dont know what will. I love it, 1600 miles with the sim and no CEL ever.

The valves only open when there is enough vacuum, which will not be present unless you are begining to suck watter up the tube. There is a minor interruption in flow due to the seams of the where the valve sits, but you do not lose power due to the valve itself.

Yep, this is a peace of mind mod, not something that will increase hp, if anything it will negativley impact the CAI by making the air inside more turbulent but now we're talking immeasurable diferences.

Well I just completed this exact same set up and I may toss pics up later. I was actually quite suprised on how it was not that loud. Note my AW header & S-pipe is not on yet.
THANKYOU for the idea as I was tired of waiting for the AEM and have had a hydro locked car years ago with a ICEMAN intake.

I have one of these AEM bypass valves on my injen. Im not so sure of its effectiveness because I dont drive through lakes. Anyone else got it on an Injen? The only question I have is that the two pipes are set up with minimal distance between, and the bypass valve is much larger than the original Injen coupler. Would this effect the reliability of the valve? I would guess not but I want to take it off and see what I can do to really rely on it.

all in all, it takes me about 5 mins to convert my Injen CAI Intake into SRI. For the amount of time it takes me to convert it, and for the IN-frequency I do it, I think I will just save my $40 and buy something with it.

SCC explained how these work in one of their issues heres the link http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/te...ted/index.html
that might provide some answers. I wish AEM made an intake for the tC. The red would match the rest of my accessories from them.

Well after a few days with this hybrid I am having issues. It seems the valve is too large for where the pipes meet and was causing a rattle. Also it just made the pipe less sturdy. Popped in the regular K&N coupler and all is well. Kinda bummed it did not work out for me. I did notice with out it..the intake sounds louder and the engine does seem to roar more? Maybe it does leak at wide open throttle?

hmmm I never noticed a sound difference, got about 2k miles on my car since I did that and I'm still liking the added security. Probably only gonna use it for one winter seeing how Im going turbo in spring and my new job lets me afford a daily driver other than the tc :-)
