Default I need another exhaust!! Something with tone!

Ok guys I took a chance on buying the Tanabe Concept G Axle Back without ever hearing it on a tC.

Now im not saying it was a mistake cause it truly is a one-of-a-kind sound just like they advertised...but its almost like they over-developed it.

It is sooo smooth and sooo free of rasp. that after a while it ends up having no character like, no growl, nuttin...just nice smooth bassy tone.

Dont get me wrong its a great exhaust but Im looking fomr something that has an audible idle..and while driving has a nice throaty growl to it....

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Yes I DID search, I LOOKED AT THE EXHAUST THREAD and half of the links dont work anyway...

I just need something guys...

PS: If I keep the Tanabe and just get some piping for it to make it a cat back, you think it will sound the way I want it?>

Thanks in advance

~matty

do u plan on getting a header and s-pipe? if so keep the exhaust u have cause the header will make it louder for sure. it might end up sounding the way you want once you add the header.

how about getting a cai....it adds a great dimension to that exhaust......is deep throughout most of the rpm range except approaching redline when the concept g i is paired with a cai.....you won't get that deep idle sound unless you free up more of the airways (ie header, cat back, etc).....remember, stock the tc is eerily quiet for a car...so you can't expect the normal sound upgrades that you are used to in other cars....

Not to get off subject for too long but yea its awesome! The first day I put it in i was like holy shyt!!

its the poor mans short throw like i say..i requires less work to get into gear, and is tossable when downshifting fast from 3-2 or 5-3....it just goes in

i recommend it, it comes with 3 seperate stick on plates so u can change the color of the shift pattern.. ill take a pic and post tom if u like

anyway ahhh exhaust!!!

I have Injen CAI & Tanabe Concept G combo and I like it. It's kinda louder than I expected tho. pretty deep sound from exhaust at low rpm and once it hits 3.5k rpm the cai sounds really awesome.

but u can agree with me that it doesnt have that idle like say the TRD does, and no growl correct?

IMO, the HKS hi-power has the best sound (if that's what ur looking for). I did a lot of research before i got it, and it's the one i felt had the deepest and cleanest (no rasp) tone. You'll get little to no hp gains, but it will sound great!

I haven't heard of TRD one, but yes I agree. But is growl at idle really necessary?

I have the TRD exhaust, megan s-pipe, and injen intake and it sounds beautiful. The idle growl is nice and when I get on it you can hear it coming from a mile away. I love this setup...I just have to get the megan mid pipe now.

Grab a mid-pipe that removes the stock resonator and you should be good. A resonator isn't really needed unless you go with a header. I have the Magnaflow cat-back and I like it, except the clamps hit the heat shield causing a rattle problem from time to time. I have new clamps coming in though. Simple enough fix.

i think w/ all exhausts on the market, u won't get any idle growl, unless you get something more than just the exhaust.

and all the stuff i head w/ header upgrades just ruins the sound of any exhaust. the rasp just sounds really bad.

I have a Megan Racing S-Pipe with custom mid-pipe and a Megan Racing Muffler w/ slanted tip and it sounds nice. low audiable idle and when you step on it, it sounds nice. I kept the resenator on. now I have turbo and it just sounds louder at all levels.

I had the same problem as the original poster... I have a full Megan OE-RS kit with Megan header and s-pipe... the latter two make the growling note much nicer, but even with my resonator, the OE-RS muffler doesn't do a good job of fighting rasp. After hearing someone who should've had a much raspier set-up than me (Alphawerks headers along with 2.5" piping) have a great tone (HKS Hipower... links in the sound thread) I've settled on getting it.
