I wanna remove Power Steering..Please Help!?
Okay, so. I plan on just getting s shorter timing belt and just avoid the power steering pump.
My question is, how long is the OEM belt and what size should I get so the belt fits very WELL???
Also, any other thoughts on how to remove power steering? I know i could just drain the fluid... but I'm sure that will ruin my pump.

You don't want to do this... trust me... you don't.... the gains aren't even CLOSE to being worth it for the comprimise in drivabililty.... have you tried to turn your steering wheel with the car shut off? it's INSANELY hard.

hahaha yes i have driven cars with NO power steering.. and yes i have tried turning my wheel with the car off. i just dont wanna have it, i dont like it... well actually its very good BUT i just wanna have my car no power steering. also, this is why i dont wanna just drain the fluid... in case i wanna go back to power steering, i wont have to potentoally have to buy a new pump.
so anyone got any siizes for me???

i was thinking taking off the belt and tightenning it by hand while avoiding the power steering pump and marking it on my belt, and then going to an auto parts store and asking for belt thats around the size marked

I'm sure going to a good shop that has multiple belt sizes could help out... they could test fit much easier and such...
Let us know when you re-attach the pump though, as the tC has a great responsive steering system and you'll lose that dynamic for sure... I doubt you'll be happy... but worth a shot to see what the result is from a normal guy.

fyi the xB has variable assist so there is very little load on the engine at speed (put it in neutral and watch the idle) but with the engine off and the wheels off the ground it was still hard to turn stop to stop. Change the lube in it to something better.

I wish I could do this sometimes. I have read elsewhere that cars with power steering have racks designed for just that, power steering, and that they will not react well to unpowered steering.
I've driven a 57 Bel Air with no power anything- it's horrible manuevering in a driveway, but I really enjoyed it on the road.

hey... gentle.... let's see the result first... I agree that the cost outweighs the gains... but, we'll see what happens soon enough...
