What a useless thread... forget to follow this one... should have...
The heat in the engine bay of the tC, especially one running headers like mine is not even funny... my buds rsx intake temperature dropped more than 10 degrees running CAI over SRI. Good ol' OBDII scanners to read that on his laptop on the road... so I don't know what you are talking about when it comes to intake temp...
To this day, I haven't seen a real Hydrolock on a tC on these forums... and doubt I ever will... just due to how the CAI is set up in our car... it's behind the bumper, higher than the vent (If you open it up)...
The fear-mongering is just not reasonable...
I'm almost 27... does that make me credible?

I vote a lock, if people can't get past my age visit here;

Back to my original statement, i say lock it. You can't hydrolock under available, logical driving conditions its been asked randomly for over the past two years on here wether a scion can be hydrolocked, no it can't. Doesn't matter what the car is, what the motor is or what company puts out the intake.

EDIT: MPG has been discussed so many times its ridiculous.

Age has nothing to do with it, but someone makes a moronic statement like "sucking water into a CAI and hydrolocking the tc is impossible!" then you question their intelligence/experience, and ususally its related to age...
ANything is possible, just cuz it hasn't happened yet don't mean its not goin to...
The bottom line and my real point is that the performance gain for a CAI over a SRI is minimal at best...ON A DYNO, it is noticeable. WHY? Because the car is not moving, but the engine bay is hot (duh cuz the motors running). The CAI is intaking cooler (not cold!) air than a SR would because its filter is below the engine bay. THerefore..on a dyno, CAI's produce larger gains, but on the street (especially now when its freezing out) a SR intake gets plenty of cool air flow thru the grill and up thru the undercarriage-while the car is moving.
Also, the long piping of CAI's reduces the velocity, pressure, and density of the intake air due to the long distance the air has to travel once its been sucked thru the filter head (restriction). On the other hand a nice big fat SR intake gulps in a big breath of air and feeds it rite into the intake manifold.

You don't read everything i said.
I said, its virtually impossible to hydrolock under logical, practical driving conditions. Driving through a flood is not practical and shouldn't be advised to do so. So, no, it virtually can not be done if conditions are that of being able to drive.
You are still hanging up on one setence of my posts. And thats not even the full sentence. I never said its impossible, period. Read everything i say, then comment. I've had to say this three times now.

Go CAI... Looks better, any difference you probably would never know or feel, except on a Dyno... and it would tick off audiobahn....
LoL.
Anyways.... Never worry about Hydrolock... Don't drive through flooded streets in your baby.... and wear protection at all times!
ROCK ON CAI!
I'm Out!

It's all aethestics IMHO... I just love the look of the CAI sooo much more and sincerely believe that with my left guard removed and my CAI sucking away... at highways speeds, A LOT of nice cool air is getting forced into that area and sucked right up into my nice lil' motor without as much engine heat getting in the way... I sure wish there was a way to tell on the street which pulls more hp.
