Issue with my 05 Scion tC
Hi all,
I'm new to the site. I just bought a 2005 Scion tC last week with 94500 miles. The day I bought it, I took it in for a tune up. When I got into it afterwards, the dashboard lights started flickering on and off, and the car stalled out and died. So I started it back up and it was fine. So as the week continued, it would keep doing that on and off. This past Saturday It was getting really bad. The lights were flickering on and off, and the RPM's were going everywhere 0-the top. and the speedometer was acting crazy. So i pulled over and turned the car off, and it wouldn't turn back on. Got it to mechanic, they can't figure it out. went to start it, not starting.
Any ideas? Suggestions?

Took it to a mech and they couldn't figure it out? What kind of mechanic tells you they can't figure out what's wrong with your car?
Take it to another mechanic.
I would start with the alternator. Lights flickering and tach all over the place is a voltage problem. My guess is the alternator or voltage regulator is bad; it was causing voltage problems and your battery is dead and keeping the car from starting because the alternator didn't keep it charged.
One way or the other, replacing the alternator as a guess is more useful than taking it to your mechanic.

Sounds like a battery terminal might be loose or possibly the ground wire...I would expect a mechanic to find these sorts of things, if you grab your positive or negative terminal and pull up do they move?
