And I love how Honda guys just praise the high revving engine. They make it seem like the higher the revs, the faster the car goes. I guess that means the 63hp Suzuki Cappuccino that has an 8500rpm redline is faster than the new Si. .

well... to defend honda guys, they can praise the high revving engines. It all depends what application they want it for. In a drag, id prefer a high tq car, in a auto-x, id prefer a high HP car, cause once the car is moving, TQ isnt too much of an issue, and you can stay in higher gears.

I want my tq for autox. coming off a tight pin turn, you need that tq. I run a whole course in 2nd gear, I dont need to shift because I have the tq to use the whole gear.

But, there is a place for both. In road racing, the smaller displacement, high revving engines are great for rev matching, and you can use a 6 speed to keep them in thier power band. So there is no one tool for all jobs.

I'd actually prefer a balanced car for auto-x. With a high-reving engine that has absolutely no power under 5k rpm, you're forced to downshift everytime you slow down. Versus say a turbo tC, where if I'm exiting a corner at about 3k rpm, I'll have enough torque to get it moving again without having to downshift. Also, high hp, low tq is worthless for sharp turns going up hills.

yup. i agree with both of you. all depends on driver preference, and what they are more comfortable driving.

overall... this thread should be locked... along with most of SL

I'm threadjacking this useless thread for my own laughs.

Someone should pull a Tesla Roadster on our car, and just load it up with electric motors and laptop batteries. Now that I can justify spending some money on. It's the answer to the burning desire I have to have torque right away.

Well if you look at track times, it's usually the balanced turbo vehicle with high 6-low 7k rpm redline that dominates. Evo, GT-R, MazdaSPEED3, BMW M3(yea I know not turbo, but mid range redline). There are some exceptions, RX7 and Atom come to mind, but those cars just defy the laws of gravity so they don't count. It really doesn't have anything to do with the engine though, it ultimately comes down to the chassis. And before some Honda tool says the Atom has a Honda motor, they put a low displacement V8 into it and it DECIMATED the Honda version. It's being considered for production because of how much faster it was.

Ariel Atom ftw. An 89 Civic is like a tank compared to the Atom.
