this guy hasnt been on since MARCH 9TH 2007, i really hope you guys arent expecting a response anytime soon. he came up and posted on 1 day and never came back

That sucks, since he was going to get A LOT of business just from this thread. Also sucks because I wanted one.

nice... I know I will be getting one.... texas summers are a _____ and after even a decent late night high speed run.. you can feel the heat soak...

CIP {case in point}

45 minute highway drive and know I was down by at least 5 hp. raced a car I have beaten many times before nad just couldnt do it... heat soak... {puke}

Don't wait. PWR will make a radiator for you. We had two built for the road race car. Now our car has no A/C so they may have to redesign something if you guys intend to keep A/C, but still call them up. Their website is:

Two questions.
That radiator cap on there says 16 lbs, could I use the TRD radiator cap that is 18 lbs instead???
The TRD thermostat, does that go on the radiator itself, or somewhere on the engine???

The TRD cap isn't 18 psi if I remember correctly. Perhaps it is "slightly" higher than 16. It's a basic wash. The neck of this radiator will not accommodate the TRD cap, but this cap comes packaged with the radiator when they send it to you. The Tstat is installed on the engine.

Strange. Either way, PWR's 16 psi cap is plenty.

Does using a higher psi radiator cap put more stress on the engine or radiator in some way? Just wondering why not just put the top psi radiator cap available. My knowledge in this area is limited. Your thoughs on this please adg016.

Thermodynamics suggests that fluid boiling points increase as you add pressure. A higher pressure cap is typically used to increase the temperature at which your water or water/coolant mixture will boil. Obviously if you go too high your hoses might not have the burst strength to cope with this. I don't think it much matters whether you're at the levels we are talking about though. Keeping a race engine cool usually is a several step process which can include the following:

--Underdrive pulleys to slow the water pump down to reduce high rpm cavitation
--Colder Tstat to open up sooner and allow water to circulate through the radiator
--Shrouding and ducting of the radiator to increase cooling efficiency
--Upgrade in the size and design of radiator to increase capacity and efficiency
--Addition of oil cooler setup to prevent overheating oil from heat soaking the water
--High pressure cap to raise boiling point
--Water only placed in system (or with water wetter). H2O has far greater heat transfer properties than coolant
--Thorough bleeding of air from the system
--Water spray on radiator

I got underdrive pullies, and I just ordered a thermostat.

I'm still debating whether to get a seperate oil cooler or to get one thats combined with the performance radiator?

Honestly...for street use, and if you're NA, you don't really need an oil cooler.

Ok, you need an oil cooler. Keep it separate. Go with your own custom deal. We have a Setrab setup in our car.
