Default Legal power mods in cali?

I'm wondering what is a good mod for the car to give it more power but still be legal in CA. I have the TRD CAI, so since that was factory, the cops told me I should be fine. Only other thing I could think of is a throttle body spacer. Headers and Intake Manifolds I think I'd be pulled over. Also, I don't think my warranty would be voided with the spacers. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Oh, and if nothing is really legal, then I don't buy and that's all. Here for research.

header's aren't legal for sure but if you're on the down low with a resonator or something you should be fine.

pulleys would be fine too~

you could always get the supercharger, but i've been hearing a lot that it's not reliable ...but i guess it depends on your luck cuz some say it's great and other say it's poop~

All depends on if it is installed properly! The initial problems they had with leaks in the seals have been somewhat fixed with the 2nd edition attachment kit. I just had my 1st edition changed out because of that problem. Big bonus for the S/C is that if you have it installed by Toyota and don't do anything to it, you are under your vehicles 5yr/60k warranty.

Otherwise just about anything else you do to your car, headers, most intakes, etc... are "for off road use only" which is mostly a bull___ D.O.T. restriction.

headers and intake manifold are not legel and the intake manifold has fitment issues which is why no one on here has one, if you want to make your trd exhaust then you can add an s-pipe and midpipe. as for pulleys i have no comment about mine but if you want hit up steve, bobby, or dean and ask them what happened to mine which i will not discuss here but if your interested then pm me about it. as for the throttle body spacer the trd intake will hit the trd strut bar and i know this because it has done that on marcie's car with the HOB spacer from fastscions but i think if you buy that red powerraid spacer from ebay you will be fine because dean has one and it looks shorter than mine but not by much.

If you want easy power mods that are legal in Cali, do a full lightweight pulley swap to the NST ones. Easy gain of ~15hp and quicker acceleration, better mpg if you are driving conservativly. For even more you can swap to the underdrive kit but then you are changing your belt as well...

Nothing is LEGAL in CALI.

I got a State Ref Ticket & fined for $360 for having Axle-Back Exhaust & an INJEN intake!

I now have the CARB Legal K&N Intake.

Is this the spacer Cat is talking about that Dean has?

http://www.fastscions.com/scion-2AZF...r-501-608.aspx

Also, what is NST's rep on pulleys? This all helps thanks.

that CAI isn't legal either, tho most cops will probably take your word when you tell em it's a factory option. but it says right on the scion website that it's for off road use only.

It's not that is so much on the illegal part because of smog, anti-racing... its that the state is freaking bankrupt beyond belief!!! They want your money and they are going to get it... without raising taxes too.. it's a kinder gentler political scheme

You also have to remember that not only is almost everything illegal in Cali... only in the state of Cali can just about everything give you cancer...it's redonkulous!

NST is the final word on pulley's for Scion's. Sure Agency Power makes a lightweight crank pulley but thats it, ZPI made one too but they are out of business (unforutnatly).
NST makes lightweight, overdrive, underdrive and s/c pulleys. They use top of the line manufacturing techniques and are used by a lot of SL'ers. Plus they make their pulleys in multiple colors too!

I'm mixed about the pulley. Spacer by PowerAid seems like the way to go.

Agreed. Not gonna stop me though. Don't give anyone any reason to look under your hood. Avoid all police checkpoints like the plague.

Don't waste your money on a TB spacer..it doesn't do anything...and the TRD intake isn't legal even if it was installed factory. Unless it has a carb sticker on it you will fail the visual inspection during a smog check.

are there no legal exhaust options for cali other than the trd muffler? i live in the sf bay area (which in my 14 years of driving experience is sorta back and forth as far as fix-it tickets go) and i just bough the k&n carb legal intake...i want to get the apexi ws (which is pretty oem) but since im keeping the car for a long time (im broke and in grad school) i want a ride that won't have me sweating bullets everytime i drive by a cop.

those of you esp. in sf bay, what exhaust do you have on your car and has it ever gotten you into trouble?

Move away from CA, problem solved. Every customer that i talk to on a daily basis from CA have the IQ of a jellyfish, so if you move you wont be missing much.
