Default lets talk drivetrain mods..

With a new turbo kit from ZPI due in a few weeks, it is time to get serious on the tC. I already have a set of light weight OZ Superleggera and will look into a nice set of drag radials of some sort. I already have a set of autoX rims / tires.

I would like any information and pricing on:
Lightweight flywheel, I like either: steel or preferably aluminum with sinter iron inserts.

Clutch, I prefer single diaphragm pressure plate with a dual sided sprung hub. Looking for a puck look carbon Kevlar on the “puck” face and ferrous ceramic on the full face side.

LSD: prefer gear type aka quaife, but will also look at clutch as well as phantom which is the least preferred IMO.

Pod for gauges, the tC has a sculpted pod cluster, I want something with the same look and feel.

Last is drive shafts, I autoX so these take a beating.

Any vendor options of group buys? I put aside $2000.00 for the above right now, I can get more next pay check.

the tc says to call, so ZPI call and put me down for all three of the above for a group buy! um I need only one clutch so you pick act or clutch masters...

just to the party started

Here is what I am going to install.

Clutch Specialists custom made but they can duplicate it easily enough. 6 puc sprung clutch, HD PP, 10 lb aluminum flywheel. CS was highly recommended to me by an excellent engine builder.

Phantom Grip LSD, turbo version. I had very good luck with at least 200 hard core(I am not a very smooth driver) autocross runs in So Cal, some very fast courses, with Kumho Ectsa V700's with my 250WHP Matrix, held up just fine and worked very well.

A must!!!!!!!! front and rear motor mounts, fill them with two part eurathane, it will cure your wheel hop I made the Matrix ones two stiff and had to drill some holes into them., so for the tC I am using a softer formula of Devcon, Flexane 80. I also cut out most of the stock rubber on the Matrix ones, this time I am using a bit softer compound, as mentioned above and not cutting out the rubber, I expect some great results

you would take this vs the weapon R damper? The oldlady's Volvo has this type of damper and it hooks to an OEM STB, Volvo really knows their stuff. Anyhow is the Devcon stuff one part I just pull mount pour Devcon in let it sit a day or two and put back in car?

V700 are good tires... I surprised you like the PG LSD as it does full lock which vs a torsen which has a 2:1 limit

Filling the motor mounts with urethane is a much better solution than the Weapon R damper. The Weapon R is more of a "band aid" solution, while filled mounts (or stiffer mounts, which could also be filled if they weren't stiff enough) are the "right way" to manage motor movement.

Clutchmasters has an aluminum flywheel with a steel insert.

The Phantom Grip is the only LSD-type solution at the moment. I believe a Quaife or other gear-type LSD would be a better solution, but there is nothing right now. I'm hoping TRD or some other Japanese manufacturer comes out with an LSD (as they should be cheaper than a Quaife unit.)

thanks.. just saved some bucks.... Quaiffe list the LSD on their site as call so it should be soon. The PG will be some sort of universal unit? Dunno just don't like it, but if the price is right well...

Olddude I am 53 by the way;) I had excellent results with the PG in our boosted Matrix with race tires, etc. So far the only negatives I have ever been able to get a straight answer on was some guy on a Honda forum installed one that did not fit so he modded it and it broke his tranny. Ok, how was it modded, why not sent it back, was it an old tranny, what failed in the tranny? Those are questions I asked that never recieved an answer. In the ten times or so I have heard of problems it always came down to the same or nearly the same story and with the same results, internet gossip.

I am not saying the product is perfect of fool proof, just that I have had great personal experience with it and have not heard one substatiated problem, just some gossip

Of course if there realy are problems I would certainly want to know, pulling a tranny out and apart to install an LSD is a pain the ****, sure want to be putting in something I can depend on

Nice thread, not to the turbo stage yet but probably a good idea to start considering these modifications. Watching this thread for updates, great job gentleman.

got me thinking too $1200 for Quaiffe maybe $800 on group buy vs $300 group buy for the PG... might be worth a shot!

Since there has been only one know driveshaft failure, I maybe OK with the stock shafts AND these are easy to change vs LSD internal to the trans.

One question, do we know if the diff is bolted the carrier or is it riveted ala VW? I sure hope it is bolted, may not matter with a PG in any case.

It is a great deal of work to remove the transaxle and a bit more to oull it apart to install the LSD. With the Phantom Grip that part is a piece of cake though, just pop out the pin for the spider gears, slip in the unit, put the pin back in and chisel off the retainers. I can do it in about 10 minutes.

I run redline lube with these, just have worked fine on the three I have installed.

Stock driveshafts are very well made, never had a problem with 19k very very hard miles on my turbotrix with 250WHP and 230 ft lbs on V700 race tires

Another 20k miles on the car since back to stock and all is sweet as could be.

If I was a site sponsor I could do this, hmmm, I have great relationships with them, maybe I will see about doing it, have to work it out with the site admin of course.

I like to see a GP of all three: flywheel, clutch and PG. Might as well do it all at the same time.

I agree, great idea. I will be recieving my Clutch Specialists 10lb flywheel, 6 puc sprung clutch and PP very soon. I can install them and the PG at the same time I install the Hotchkis FSB and when I mold the eurathane motor mounts

Then I can report on how well it all works and see about getting a GB going or at least get somebody to do it for you guys
