I hear valve tick and the vsv (vacume switching valve) its suppose to sound like that.
I insulated my vsv with a rubber grommet and I can't hear it at all anymore.

Can you take a picture of what I should insulate or is there a how too thread somewhere? I'm trying to pin point the noise but I cant

Yeah I know the ingalls makes noise but that calms down after the engine is nice and warmed up, the ticking stays there the whole time, no matter how long I drive....I hope its just vsv or valve tick as mentioned earlier

Valve tick ... you're sol. All toyotas do it and they're all just as loud.

The VSV ... its the thing with the green cap that's attatched to the side of your intake, its got all the vacume hoses and the wires for the maf sensor come out of the bundle.
I believe you have it ziptied to your strut tower brace.

The reason why its making so much noise is because on the stock intake box it has a rubber/plastic mount that insulates it. With it attached to an aftermarket metal intake tube (or in your case the stb) its hitting metal every time it moves/clicks. I just wrapped some thick rubber wire tape around it and shoved it back in the metal mount on my injen cai.

same idea, insulate it well and it will greatly reduce the sound from the vibrations

no prob guys.
If you hold the vsv while the motor is running you will feel it ticking and it will be obvious where the noise is comming from.
The more insulation the better, a layer or two thick ga. heat shrink on the mounting peg will also work.

I have to say, it is the most annoying aspect of Toyota, the Toyota Tick. They should eliminate it by now already, no other cars from my experience have that, Jap or domestic. It's kind of embarrassing when you are in idle and your car sounds like it needs a valve adjustment, no matter how tuned your car is. When I get some time I will try Bluemeanie's fix, hopefully it work for me as well.

that's BS. They told me the same thing. First the guy came out and listened to it WITH me present and said "yeah this is way to loud also for VVTi engines, we will take a look" but on the fkuin invoice they wrote "all normal". This happened twice. I'm opening a claim with toyota/scion so if my injectors/valves shoot through the block after my warranty is up: they will pay not me.

Yeah that noise sounds completely normal to me, but honestly, for the Valve tick, a full synthetic oil helps that. When I switched my car from mobil 1 to Royal Purple the valves got considerably quieter. Still here a slight tick but not as bad as it was before. The VSV though, do the mod Blue said he did, that should help it, I didn't but I've only heard mine 3-4 times now, freaked me out the first time b/c I was inside my car getting ready to turn it off when I heard it.

I have the weapon R intake like you and the reason you hear the noise is becuase the VSV isnt attacheed to anything like it was with the old intake.

I took a bar of aluminum bent it to a right angle and attached one end to the VSV (with a rubber stopper inbetween) and the other to the same spot the Weapon R screws into

It's just the fuel injection, trust me. I heard the same thing on my box....and thought it was an exhaust leak or valve noise....but found out that it was just the fuel injection.

Next time you're around another tC, listen to their engine...you will hear the same noise.
