Default lock please?

I'm attempting to build my case against big bad scion corp about my transmission:https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...715&highlight=
So i'm asking all M/T tc's with transmission problems to step up and please include as much info as possible (name/car/year) please! Hope i can get a big list out of this to scare scion corp when my lawyer presents this to them. Thanks!

ok i'm not sure if it is a problem but i have a couple things that i've noticed on my 07 tC 28865 miles.

1. sometimes it want go into reverse unless i put it into 1st gear and let out on the cluch a tad to reposition the gears or what-ever. My 93 escort did that same.

2. in 5th gear at 50mph or above there is a slite vibration in the shifter, I noticed this from day one when I bought the car and the dealership tested it and said nothing was wrong and i left it at that.

again not sure if these are problem that you are looking for but i've noticed these on mine.

Michael Bond / Scion tC / 2006MY

Transmission:
1) Grinds going into 2nd and 3rd gear (every time for 3rd until warmed up), espeically when cold, goes away mostly when warmed up (still happens but less frequently). I have had the issue with 2nd gear and 3rd gear since shortly after buying the car. It has gotten worse over time. I have tried to flush transmission fluid and still the issue exists. After multiple attempts at getting the dealership to find it, and them stating that they could not reproduce the issue, or that it was "normal", I gave up.

2) When going into reverse, about 25% of the time it does not go into gear, and a few other people with tCs state that they have this issue too, and that the dealer says it is "normal"

3) I have had the transmission disengage itself from 5th gear when I had cruise control on. This has only happened about 4-5 times though through out the whole time I have owned the car.

Yeah i forgot.. my reverse never goes in.. you have to put it in first.. move the car foward like an inch, then put it into reverse.. Kinda annoying.

2007 Scion tC
This happened at ~25k miles...the disc broke and the spring popped out while I was driving.
Car is bone stock and the tC isn't my first stick.
Everything was replaced for free under warranty, but only after I was warned that I would be liable for labor charges if it turned out to be my fault.
I was prepared to take home my tranny parts piece by piece in another car

nothing is going to be fixed..especially when scion isnt going to make the tC anymore, well at least not this model. It takes around a 2000+ or so people to complain in order for scion to make any changes. The civic si had many problems with the third gear popping out and it took buyers months into years to get the clutch warrantied.

The reverse gear thing is normal. you have to align the syncros sometimes by putting it in first then into reverse.

I have a friend that just got is 08 tranny replaced because it would grind in third i do believe, and eventually wouldn't even work.

also another friend with an 08 that pops out of gear when you shift almost like it is being forced out as soon as you push the clutch in.

my tranny on the other hand i don't have any problems with it other then my stock clutch slips under boost, but i have my stage 2 just haven't gotten around to putting it in yet.

There are no synchros for reverse. 100% normal for it to need you to engage/disengage to get it in reverse. If I recall correctly this is stated in your manual.

1st can be the exact same way to engage from neutral as well.

Unless you have a VERY high number of similar complaints (about the grinding) you just have isolated incidents (and based off the thousands of tCs wtihout these issues, that is probably it).. you have to remember the volumes of cars you are comparing to.

So it sucks some have the issues, and I hope you get it fixed, but I doubt you have a case for some major issue with the tC lineup. That seems to be peoples first path when a dealer doesnt want to fix their car... blame the whole model line.

The vibration in the shifter is normal as well. And as best practice and to put the least risk of excess wear on shift forks and synchros, you should not be resting your hand on the shifter while driving.

yup that vibration in 5th I've always had on my car, usually vibration is very normal, u shouldn't lay ur hand on the shifter all the time with a lot of weight on it either. but besides that the reverse is normal a lot of cars do that, my 02 si did it, my jetta did it, my brother 08 si does it. its normal u let go of the clutch throw it in neutral or into 1st/2nd however u want and then reverse. but the grinding is another story I never have bad grinding like that unless I let go of the clutch too quickly or anything like that. seems like the cold weather comes into play with that.

Usually have to shift into first to get it into reverse. Sometimes It doesn't go fully into first, went half way in and disengaged itself.

yeah that's usually normal with cars. jus let go of the clutch put it in neutral and go into reverse. or I do 2nd to reverse. but neutral and letting go of the clutch is good too
