i doubt its coming from the gearbox. next time you slow down and you hear the noise slowly turn the steering wheel alittle to the left and right and see if it goes away.. i think your having a bearing problem..

It happens when im NOT pressing the brakes or if I do press the brakes, noise doesnt change. It doesnt matter if I go straight or cut the wheel to the left or right, it still makes the noise. Doesnt matter if the dang car is on or if I turn it off and coast it down the street. Doesnt matter if its in gear or if I throw it in neutral and once again coast down the road. Doesnt matter what I do that damn noise is mostly heard starting around 25mph and all the way to a complete stop. I think the reason I cant hear it while accelerating is cuz I have an Ingalls stiffy, ES Motor Mounts, Raceland CAI, Tsudo 4-2-1 header with spipe and HKS axleback so its extremely loud lol! Its best heard when I coast it in neutral with the car off or on!

check your brakes as someone said earlier in this thread... might also be something that got binded up inbetween something. i'd just take the brakes apart and clean/grease everything up right and see if that helps some....

or the tire/tires are rubbing on something????

Actually we jacked the car up and we each took a turn getting underneath the car while the other one spun the tire and when the tire was spinning, the noise was coming directly from the gearbox. I bought some tranny fluid today and plan to change it later this week to see if that helps but I have a feeling a tooth broke off one of the gears or something like that in the gearbox! I checked the entire brake system, tires, suspension and found nothing!

For your sake, I hope its not the tranny. It's a PITA to get out.

I just realized one more thing you could also do... this happened to my old car and it was making some loud ___ noise.. get back under the car and locate the flywheel then see if you can spin it freely... if you can then the problem is the flywheel bolts are broken off... not sure if this is the same problem you're having but its worth a try...

pretty uncommon, i think but its something else that you should also check.

As I recall, getting to the flywheel requires taking off the transmission...

My bestfriend who is a mechanic said that it cant be the flywheel anyways. Hes the one that got under there with me that day. He said he knows what that would sound like if it was flywheel, and its not that. Maybe its cuz I drive like a dumb@ss most of the time and really did break something, who the hell knows!

I say drain the trans fluid and look for any shavings etc. Replace with OEM Mobil 1 75w-90, 3 qts and see what happens. Either way it won't hurt if you have near 75k on the car.

I had RP in mine for about 5k. I hated it. I've used some of their other stuff but so far, I've seen 3 different brands in the tranny and Mobil 1 OEM is the best but it all depends on your car. Some cars like it, some drivers like it, I couldn't stand it. Felt like I only had water in there lol.

No sir. Tomorrow im changing the tranny fluid. I was waiting for my day off. If that doesnt solve it, then im screwed cuz the noise is coming directly from gearbox!
