major oil filter problem

Default major oil filter problem

i have done countless oil changes on a number of cars, when putting on a new oil filter i always lubricate the gasket with fresh oil. i was doing an oil change and when i was taking off my old filter(k&n) the instant i tried to wrench it off the bottom fell off WTF! so i tried to punch a screwdriver through it and when i tried to do that i tore the filter apart am i f$&Ked

I'm sure there is someway to get that off. I don't know what it looks like but maybe clamp it.

well, funny enough, i had this happen once lol - same thing - trying to use the nut on a K&N. I used a sawzaw and cut it off about 1.5" from the block, than used an alan head socket to remove the filter and the threaded stud that it screws onto in the cradle.

Mine was obviously an extreme case - after tearing up the bottom of the filter with two diff filter tools, that's what it came down to. Id def try one of the ratcheting filter removal tools first.

Remember, when installing your filter, do NOT crank it on. Just a bit beyond hand tight.

yeah i hacked off the bottom of it to, i saw the stud i might try that
