hmm... well this is honestly the first time i've seen this question asked... manual to auto instead of the other way around.
i'm just gonna say that it's probably cheaper (and less of a hassle) just to get another car. (trade-in)

I don't think I've ever seen/heard/thought of anyone asking for an auto after getting a manual.....
A swap will probably be best like others have suggested if you're bone stock (or if your mods are easily swappable also)

Even if you HAVE the money and would spend it... it wouldn't be worth the parts and it would not be worth the labor.
I don't know about swapping with another person - seems like a hassle of paperwork and such to get the VINs/titles right.
If you really want an auto - go trade yours in.
I don't see any reason for this thread to continue... really.

seeing that i used to do transmission swaps all the time, presonally i would suggest it. most people on here are just following what someone else said, and dont really know the prices. new tranny about $1600, and about $700 to install. and if you have more than $2300 paid for your car, how is it cheaper to buy a new car and have the price of a new TC over your head again? mine is paid off, and there is no way in hell a trade in (new payments) is cheaper than a swap. (if for some reason i would do it) i already haver manual... did you people already consider A/T cars generally cost more than manuals to begin with? so with that being said, its cheaper to do a swap...
oh and what headache? more than likely he would PAY someone else to do it. he would just have to buy some extra parts.. cause technically, he could use his existing pedals. but the clutch would be useless. but he would have to get a new ecu, and gear selector, and gear indicator cover. no need to buy a new guage cluster either.

umm well seeing that im a MECHANIC and your a computer guy, i can say its probably not that more difficult than any other swap that i have done. till you drop a twin turbo motor in a non turbo 300zx and do a COMPLETE swap, just moderate. changing a transmission is NOT difficult. hmm lets see, you have a half shaft, tranny mount, and the mounting hardware to the motor to remove. viola. its off. do a rea wheel drive car sometime where you have to remove a huge drive shaft and the tranny weighs 2x's as much. so no i havent dont a TC transmission, but i have done WAY more difficult ones......
list for a manual to auto swap:
transmission
auto shift linkage
auto gear selector
half shaft
ECU
ATF
possible tranny mount (might have to fab on the frame as well just a little)
gasket
auto gear indicator plate (for the gear selector)

Let's just calm down a little here... I'm just posing the question b/c with a car so new - and NO ONE having done it. It SHOULD be a concern. For simplicity sake, it should be easier to trade in and get a different vehicle. And I don't think the payments and such should be TOO much different than anything he's currently paying, considering the high value the tCs are maintaining so far. So if anything it would be a little more partly b/c of it being auto, but also depending on the year/condition of his current one.
But ya... just b/c I do computers doesn't make me a moron as a mechanic. I know people do swaps in other vehicles all the time - and even with stuff that wasn't meant to be there to begin with. But that doesn't mean it would be all perfect with the tC until someone does it and has no problems.

Say this guy and I met up and had a shop do this for us. Couldnt all thats needed to be swapped just be swapped without me having to look around for the tC parts I needed to go manual? I know it would still cost over a grand or so for labor but I think Id rather pay the $1k for my half than trade it in...

^ You'd probably have to go to the shop and ask them. They would be able to tell you what else you might need to get. And if you really wanted to, you could split the cost of the extra parts (and probably the labor).
