I have a 2005 tC and I currently put in 5w40 - I think im going to switch over to a constant 10w40 starting next oil change.

But why? Just order it online if you cant find it in the store. Or - call around and find a spot that does have some and get a few cases. Someone has to have it ....its oil.

I personally wouldn't be messing around with the weight of the oil so much, but in any case, you have it in reverse. If you are using those 2 oils, you want to use the 0w oil in the winter for colder starting and a heavier oil, 10w in the summer. It sounds like you have it in reverse. Use the 0W next winter if those are the two oils that you are between.

^ i was about to say that. Also - you dont use a different weight oil just because you cant find the one you need. Thats like saying they ran out of premium gas so I bought diesel or bought regular (but you 100% need premium).

Thats still a pretty heavy weight oil though. Why did you go up from 30 to 40? and why from 5w to 10w?

heavier weight oil does not flow properly throught the clearnaces in the engine between the bearings. It increases the speed at wich the oil travels and it begins to lose its advantage in reducing friction and reducing engine temps. remember you can skip water across a hot pan if you do it fast enough before anything happens, it takes time for it to evaporate or the pan to cool. Dont mess with what you manual says. Btw the weighs are backwards.

when oil cools it becomes thinner when it gets hot it thickens. remember W is winter 0w 30, 30 in the summer 0 in the winter.
