Default Mobil 1 synthetic

i just got the car last week. its at about 120miles so far.
after a few more miles is it ok to use Mobil 1 synthetic? 0w20? 0w30? 5w30?

or should i go for mobil 1 5000? (the conventional oil)

my friend said that if i go with synthetic my mpg will drop. is that true?

Lolzn...man your post whorin' it up.

Around 3,000 miles was when my engine seals finally set. I changed to Mobil 1 Syn 5w 20 around 4,500. Some think its safe to change right away while others think its safer to let the seals set before changing to synthetic. My gas mileage is about the same if not better. Keep replacing those oil filters with Toyota OEM. Search dude...search.

I've heard bad stuff about mobile 1 oil filters with the size and the amount it can filter and return back to the engine. Mobile 1 oil filter is about a .5 inches shorter than a toyota filter. Every person on this site has their own favorite oil you just have to decide for yourself off the facts that are presented to you.

I checked my oil dipstick in intervals of 5 days since she came off the lot and noticed around 3,000 miles my oil level 'leveled out' and the viscosity had different characteristics within it. Your engine seals will begin to slow down on the absorbtion of oil(some notice it right away and for others it takes awhile). During this time some call it engine break in but the engine is pretty much good to go just read your manual for more info about break-in period because it's still important for new cars today.

the size difference in the filter has a minimal effect on the amount of oil you put in right? how much does a stock factory oil filter cost?

i worked at a garage before and those suckers are a nightmare to take off...not grip and the worst part some of them are so far in the engine tools could not be used...

i'll probably spary some adhesive grip on the filter before i install them....

i use royal purple, and k&n oil filter combo, and have been since i've been s/c. i had the dealer put mobil 1 synthetic in when they put the charger on, but at the next oil change, i switched to royal purple.

I wouldn't use Mobil 1, I think it's junk. Go with Pennzoil Platinum, that's a pretty good oil. M1 seems to burn off quite quickly.

But I think their filters are decent.

Don't just get something because it's cheaper. You might change your own 3-4 times a year? Saving $15-20 a year on a cheaper filter isn't worth it, IMO.

Sorry, I was talking about the filter. Definitely spend the extra money to get a better filter.

Are these statements engine specific or generalized over various engine makes towards M1?

good oil filters are OEM, K&N, Mobil1, Amsoil, and purolator

i use the K&N and mobil for m car because i use my car at high RPMS and i push it along with synthetic oil

if u drive normally use OEM, purolator or amsoil with regular oil

if u sometimes push it use synthetic

i used to have a honda and seen the difference of an enigne being pushed to its limits with synthetic oil and regular oilm, the synthetic can hold up to heat and the regular oil leaves burnt residue in the camshafts and uunder the valve cover

Exactly. Why chance other filters that make claims when you know the OEM will protect your motor? Sure one may be cheaper BUT it might come at engine safety.

I'd wait till your first oil change to switch over to Syn. Oil.

www.bobistheoilguy.com to research all your oil needs. I've not heard a whole lot of good about Royal Purple except that its pricey.

My lifters are louder with mobile one.. I just switched to non synthetic.

Still use mobile oil with oem filter!

No matter what oil just make sure you do changes every 3-5k and check it every fill up and you will be OK.

Wrong answer. I went 15,000 miles on last oil change. The oil was amsoil 0w-30 with the amsoil eA oil filter changed filter only once. Had an oil sample sent for analysis and it came back just fine. could have gone further.
