Wrong answer. I went 15,000 miles on last oil change. The oil was amsoil 0w-30 with the amsoil eA oil filter changed filter only once. Had an oil sample sent for analysis and it came back just fine. could have gone further.
changing the oil more often then necessary is not a bad thing at all for the motor. and congrats on risking damage to your motor but getting lucky. I am gonna change mine every 5000 miles and i would advise all to do the same

what risk? the oil is recomended to go 35k. if the oil isn't broken down, and the filter is able to contain contaminates then there is no need to change. show me proof that it's not ok. http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/sso.aspx

I just did an oil change on my 08 manual tc, i switched to Royal Purple 5w30 because of the extreme heat that i drive in, im in las vegas and drive to arizona normally its 105+ degrees outside, a heavier wieght oil offers more protection in hotter temps.

yea the oil may be good enough, but hmm let me think about something...wait the inside of my motor has metal to metal rubbing together. I wonder if at any point some of the metal is worn off and is caught in the oil. O well i guess i would leave those pieces of metal in my engine for as long as possible because my oil is good for 35k miles. Yea like i said change the oil every 5k or less. Also another way to extend the life of your motor is to not run it hard until the oil has warmed up good as it lubricates better when hot. But i don't know what i am talking about so nevermind

yea man for sure, if you take care of toyota motors they will damn near last forever. And even if you dont baby em they somtimes still will last forever. My dad had an 84' corolla coupe which he put 190xxx miles on and then gave to my cousin (the most wreckless person ever) and it lasted another 30xxx before the rear end (as they were RWD at that point ) on the thing wore out...but the motor was still goin strong

to who ever said the oil is good for 35k is correct, but the additives, protectants, detergents are not, those are the parts of the oil that clean and protect the engine during use. the oil part just lubricates, but engine oil does a lot more tehn lubricates.

the reason why they recomend 3-5k oil changes is because after that the detergents and what not start breaking down. theres special cemicals in the oil to control pH balence, antifoaming angents, blah blah blah. so to go 35k on the same oil is retarded.

To me, changing oil is a very cheep and inexpensive way to maintain proper working order of your car, its like putting gas in your car. You wouldn't want old worn out gas, sure it may still work, but not as well as new gas. And for me, oil is about as easy as gas, it just takes a little bit longer.

^^^haha you should talk to coryjames. An oil change requires a screwdriver, a hammer, and about 4 rolls of paper towels.

I myself use M1 and change it every 5k for the warranty purpose and the fact that I actually enjoy changing oil.

I think Amsoil is for people like my dad who isn't interested in cars and wants something that he can use the car doesn't have to get the oil change so often. He has his driver take the cars to the dealership.... you guessed it, every 70,000 km, and this is in southern China, where he is always stuck in traffic in over 100 degree Farenheight weather. The oil he uses is a synthetic oil by CPC. Needless to say, he only drives Toyotas.

do i just change the oil at the first 500 mile to remove engine shavings? heard the break in period causes a lot of shavings and other stuff. or is that just a rumor?

i dont like the idea of toyota factory organic oil in my car.....
can i just switch to full synthetic right away or use non-synthetic?

iv been hearing i should just use mobil 1 5000 for a while..

from what i have heard, its better to wait 3000-5000 miles and let the seals set before you change to your fav oil

3,000-5,000 miles on conventional oil? before i switch to synthetic?

well i'm beginning to not care right now... i'll probably switch to royal purple at the 500 mile point and change ever 5k miles.
hopefully i'll gain something like 2-3 miles per gallon...

Hey quick question, I just started using mobil 1 synthetic...
Should I change the oil every 3000 miles or continue with my regular oil change at 5000 miles?

The M1 synthetic would be good for 5000 miles or more.
