Default Muffler Question

i've been wanting to get the hks carbon ti muffler for a while now but i flaked on it for a tsudo n1 catback.. i kinda regret it though.

the catback delivers a beautiful tone but it tends to get raspy at times.. would the MUFFLER itself be responsible for this? i only have an injen cai... im still on stock headers.

the rasp i notice only occurs when im past 4-5k rpm's. especially if i rev in neutral. and as the rpm drops.. a little cough, fart, sputter or whatever the term is comes out.

I don't know if i should just put a resonator in there to heal the rasp and sputter sound.. or put in an HKS carbon ti.. cuz i do want a smooth sound. i'm just scared that if i put in a resonator it will remove the aggressive, deep tone.

thanks

Doesn't that thing have a resonator on it or is that a preplacement cat . If you want to get rid of the rasp you will need a good size resonator. I built my own exhast using a dynomax super turbo muffler. I cut out the stock resonator and welded in a straight pipe. That resulted in the same rasp you have. To cure the rasp I installed a 12"x2.5" dynomax bullet resonator. That got rid of the rasp and it sound aswesome. You will probably need something a little longer like a 16-20" resonator since you have such a small muffler.

yeah it has a resonator, but it isn't that long in size.

the tsudo you're talking about is the original one with a slanted tip. this is the tsudo N1.. it's basically the same size as the HKS hi-power.

but anyway, when you put on the resonator.. did you get a deeper tone?

The resonator helps. When i first installed my HKS Carbon-Ti, i still had my oem resonator and it was raspy and loud. I put in an aftermarket resonator on and it eliminated most of the rasp and quieted down a bit. i posted a vid of my exhaust in another topic. check it out if u want...
