Oil Pressure Drop = Spun Bearing or Gas in Oil?
Hi All,
I'm pretty sure that I spun a main bearing in my 06 tc. It started with noticing that after 30 minutes of cruising my oil pressure dropped 10psi or so (i.e. about 45 psi at 3500 rpm). Even though this isn't extremely low, it is normally around 55psi at the same RPM. After some researching, I read that a drop in oil pressure can be as a result of a main bearing failure. After checking the oil several times, I finally noticed a small metal flake or two in the oil.
Does this sound right?
If so, could this have been caused be a gross leak in the evap system? I had a gross leak in the evap system (torn vacuum hose) that happened at the same time.
Lastly, any suggestions on what to do next? If I caught the issue early enough, would it be possible to rebuild the engine?
Thanks for all your help!

Spun bearing will have engine noise/knock. Your bearing could be wearing out. Pull oil pan then pull rod bearing and inspect it if you suspect that. Also check main bearing.

Make sense, I guess I need to pull the pan. So, if it's a rod bearing, I can replace it while the engine is in the car, but if it is a main the engine/crank needs to come out, correct?

I checked the oil this weekend (again) and it had a strong gas odor to it. So, it seems that my oil pressure drop is probably from gas getting in there.
My question is, how did gas get in my oil pan? The only thing I can think of is that my injectors are leaking? I had a large evap system leak, but don't think that could do it?
Anyone have any experience with this?

If you car fouls a spark plug, the unburned gas sometimes mixes with the oil and slowy accumulates in the oil pan. Also a rich running car will do the same, this isnt immediately but it does accumulate over time.
