let me lay out what my bro went through when he got his two dui's. lost his license for a while, lots of community service. then he had to drive around for a while with a breathalizer linked to his cars ignition installed at his expense and requires retesting every 15 min or it will shut the car off. also seriously, your car is 100% replaceble/fixable, peoples lives are not.
NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE! call a taxi, walk home, get a dd or drink at home.

Doesn't the rev limiter prevent the engine from seeing 8k?

if you downshift at high speeds into a a gear that is too low, the car has no way to to release the clutch for you. the revv limitor cuts fuel when you are holding the gas pedal down and you need to upshift.

The RPM limiter is an electronic nanny of sorts that cuts fuel when you rev to 6.5K or whatever the limiter is set at. There's nothing mechanically stopping the car from over revving. If your at 75 mph and downshift to second gear, be prepared to see your tachometer go crazy. Granted, it'll be tough to ram the gear selector into its gate but it's possible.

The best the engine can do if you misshift so horribly is to cut the fuel and hope it stays together. Toyota has a history of over building its engines; that's one of the keys of reliability.

Edit: instaposted!

the guy was drunk, who knows what he saw... for all we know he could have been cruising at a healthy 1k but the alcohol changed it into 8k

seriously tho, my friend got killed in a drunk driving accident and I think you shouldnt have a license if you would endanger everyone so carelessly.

god this is just the thread i wanted to see.

i'm a moron. Getting onto the highway this evening i decided that i wanted to see what a tC would feel like as a motorcycle. 2nd, redline in 3rd, shift to SECOND!. I instantaneously felt the car jerk forward and i kicked the clutch back in.

car drives fine, but the valves are louder than they were before. Im taking it to the dealer tommorow.

words of knowledge for today: learn your short shifter before you romp on the car! (i've had mine instaled for exactly a week)

sigh, did that once on a right handed curve, shifting from 4th to third not long after getting my car. luckily i was very conservative and it didn't over rev the engine.

Vvti24, you're an idiot. I don't ever want to hear the, "it was only once" bull$#!t! Driving drunk is never acceptable behavior. What's more, the detached tone you use suggests that this is not a one-time occurrence.

And just so we’re all on the same page here, no one with an opinion that matters will ever think you’re cool for engaging in such irresponsible behavior (at 19 no less)! Time to grow up, big boy. Forget about moddding your engine; you shouldn’t be driving in the first place. 'Nuff said.

I wish Vvti24 had drove straight into a tree, the night he decided to endanger innocent lives. It would have been a very nice sight, to see Vvti24 with his head smashed through the windshield. At least it'll take one dumba$s of the road.

I wish death upon all drunk drivers!

i had a friend that was driving at around 70mph, and he thought he would like to see if the car would go into first with the clutch pressed down, as soon as it went into gear i heard a loud pop, his clutch blew into pieces, when we took it apart it looked like shrapnel in the tranny
