is it necessary to buy one.....no? people want to because they dont want to spend the money for a header that will sound raspy. by the time you know it, you'll need to spend a good $5-600 for it not to sound raspy. its another cheap and easy way to shine up the engine bay.

Pretty much why I polished it. Bought an aftermarket header and the rasp was horrible. Spent a ton of money and time trying to get rid of the evil rasp. I was able to silence the rasp some but not completely. By polishing the OEM header I am able to achieve the look I get with an aftermarket header but without any of the exhaust rasp.

You may say that I am loosing power but is negligible.

I may have to try this... I already polished the heat shield, but this may be better (more work, but still better...)

Polishing the heat shield is less difficult than the manifold, but still looks good......

Can our magnesium valve covers be powder coated?

They are magnesium, right?

Agent99 - The valve covers are aluminum, the engine cover is plastic, and that heat shield is aluminum too. The valve cover can be powdercoated, painted, or polished.

Lil Deuce - Good job on polishing that heat shield.

looks great! I actually was goin to polish my megan header but decided to jus sand it down cause I never wiped down the header with alcohol when I first installed it so there were finger pritns galore everywhere, and it was all black and brown and nasty lookin so I jus sanded it. used 220/320/400 grit paper I coulda gone finer paper but was jus to lazy but it came out soo much better thne when I first bought the header. it turned silverish/kinda polished but ofcourse I didn't use cream or anything. now its a perfect goldish/brown after driving it yesterday no finger prints no marks nothing better then when I first got it, even jus sanding it down to get the marks off does such a bigggg difference.

Looks good... but does this just mean that it will rust at light speed once you put it on? Or do you have some way to protect it?

Why does everybody on here end their non-question sentences with a question mark? Are public schools that bad these days?

Anyway, try what? I am positive I've read on here that the tc's valve covers are magnesium. Either the guy was incorrect or it was in a dream. Weird.

^what he said?

if it is in fact magnesium, you should be able to sand a bit off and see it it lights on fire? that will tell you if its magnesium or not?

and you say public schools are bad!!!
