I have an 05 tC that is having a little problem here. Everytime i take off from a stop in either reverse or first gear, my car makes a load poping noise from the front of the vehicle. Even if its just at a snails pace take off. all other gears are ok. This just started happening recently but i cant find whats causing it to pop like that. Car has like 80k miles too and tons of mods so could be anything but curious to know if anyone has any ideas cause im out of them already. Im thinking it may be the tranny but i dont know. Give me your inputs guys. Thanks

dude sounds like ur having the same problem im having. Except I have over twice the miles, at 165,000+. Some guys on here told me to check the motor mounts. I'd take it to a shop and have it checked. Do u feel the pop? If you do do u feel it in the shifter or no??

I had the same problem...mine was the "cvc" valve i think it was called. basically it was rubbing against my front tower bar causing a popping noise when i stepped on the gas or switched gears. All they did was remount the valve and everything was fine!

well im a mechanic myself and do my own work but i just cant figure out where the poping noise is coming from. It definently aint the motor mounts though as i already checked them. Also if it were motor mounts, it would pop anytime i got on it on low gears and maybe high gears too if they were just destroyed. Also no i do not feel it thru my shifter. and no i cant feel the pop. I just hear it and it only hapens when im taking off from a stop in 1st gear or reverse not all the gears.
As for you 09bluetc, i just dont know what the heck your talking about unless your talking about the cv shafts a.k.a. axles.
Anyone else got an input on this?

^^ hey no problem. yeah not everyone would know the CVC clicker..
have you thought of inspecting the axles? and the cv joints? That transfer of power could be causing a shift in the axles causing them to click/pop.

From Service Manual:
"1. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS
(a) Remove the front wheel.
(b) Remove the 2 bolts, brake caliper and disc
(See page 30–23).
(c) Securely support the brake caliper.
(d) Using a dial indicator, check the looseness near the center
of the axle hub.
Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.)
If the looseness exceeds the maximum, replace the bearing.
NOTICE:
Ensure that the dial indicator is set at right angles to the
measurement surface
2. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB RUNOUT
(a) Using a dial indicator, check the runout at the surface of
the axle hub outside the hub bolt.
Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.)
If the runout exceeds the maximum, replace the axle hub.
(b) Install the disc, brake caliper and 2 bolts
(See page 30–23).
NOTICE:
Ensure that the dial indicator is set at right angles to the
measurement surface.
(c) Install the front wheel.
Torque: 103 N-m (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf)"
There was more but it was for the rear runout, not the front, figured you don't need that.
If you need a runout gauge, you can get one for about $10 at Harbor Freight. The mounting for that gauge is about $10 too! I got the whole setup for $20 it was on sale at time, probably $5 more now. And it worked great when I did the new brake rotors/discs.

well i had my car up on a lift and checked out some of the causes that i thought would be wrong that could cause this. I found nothing wrong. This of course was with visual inspection. I didnt take anything off that could alter the alignment because i didnt want to have to get an alignment afterwards. Anyways, Ill be checking out everything else once i get ready to pull my motor for an engine build. Anyone else have any ideas on this?

alright guys problem has been solved so if anyone else has this problem and runs into this thread, try this. Problem kept getting worse and worse and actually started causing alot of motor vibrations on stock mounts that were still good. I put my car back on a lift and this time did a little more than visual inspection. Turns out everthing is ok. Just had a couple of loose bolts. Some of the bolts were a little loose on the craddle and the two bolts up front that hold the cross member from the front of the car to the craddle were really loose. Looks like they come with some kind of lock tight for a reason from the factory wich i didnt do when i dropped it all to install my clutch last year. Never seen this happen before to any of my other cars but just threw on some locktight and threw it back together again. All problems went away after doing this. If you experience a similar problem to me just give this a shot.
