I just wanted to know if an intake manifold can actually change smog numbers, becuz if it doesnt, im pretty sure you could pass the test. Since the manifold is toward the back of the engine block where they prolly wont notice right?

OH and btw the reason im trippin off this is because, I already have the MMW header and intake. With a catless aftermarket midpipe. I wouldnt want to add a 4th peice to my list of things to switch back wen smog time comes..
i'm not sure if this is one of the things you would do on hat list of thigns to switch back...

you gotta pull the motor for this. haha

I will check with a toyota master technician later today, there is one I often hang out with. If anyone knows, he will.

pulling the motor?

the intake manifold is behind the motor, i can barely reach back there to change my injectors let alone a full intake manifold

i have the shroud off, but im talking because hte plastic intake manifold would have to be held onto using bolts on hte bottom of the manifold or soemthing

hopefully it doesn't have to be pulled but i dno't see that as a likely case at all.

yea you do kinda gotta pull the motor out bc i was trying to take the intake manifold out one day to replace my head gasket the the bottom screw on the intake manifold was kinda impossible to get to.

i doubt you have to take it out.. however disconnecting a motor mount or 2 and tilting the engine might be needed

Well I confirmed with my friend who is a toyota master technician, and with the toyota service manuals......

His exact words were "You can remove the motor if you want (laughing) but you won't need to, you can remove the intake manifold without taking out the motor, it will just be a P.I.T.A.!"

pulling the motor can be more of a P.I.T.A.

nah.

think about it.

you gotta take out the mounts, tilt the motor and squeeze that shiny metal thing behind hte motor and THEN get your hand behind it and screw in that bottom bolt.

if you pull hte motor, granted it's a bit of work but would make things easier as well as give you the opportunity to do other things like working hte block and stuff.

i dunno, i suppose you could do it with the motor in but whats hte point of upgrading the intake but not touching the internals?

You dont have to do any of that, just take out the wipers, and the cowl and those parts, and you will have a clear shot, i looked at the info and you dont take the mounts out to get to any of the bolts (and thats straight from toyota's mouth) you could do it that way and take out the mounts, but thats way more work than needed. If you are cool with any of the techs at the dealer(s) near you, get a copy of the info on how to take out the manifold (that way you dont do more work than needed)

hmmm

im going to have to look at it, from what i remember though. theres one bolt that would prove pretty hard to get to without pulling the motor.

granted. not pulling the motor might save you WORK

but probably wont' save you headache.

also helps to know that you know how to pull the motor haha

i dunno that's good news though.
