Default question for tc owners

so i had a new cat put in because of my p0420 code .turned out to be a bad cat, but before i took it in, i was trying to pass smog w/ out getting a new cat. i unhooked the batt, to get the CEL off which resets all the sensors, i drove 200 miles and STILL the catalsyt and evap sensor for some reason just will NOT go back on!! Last year they did when i tryed that trick, i drove it like 40 miles like they say too and bam it worked. anyways all the work in my car is done, but i need to smog it asap. anyone know a good "drive cycle" that would reset those two ??? any suggestions will help thanks

just take it out on the highway for a quick trip.

also, what state do you live in? in MD, if you can't pass smog, all you have to do is show an invoice showing you've spent $500 dollars attempting to correct the problem and they'll give you a waiver. check with your state laws and see if they have that cuz you've already replaced the cat.

go on the highway for a few minutes and keep the speed constant above 50mph.

To test it out, get on the highway driving above 60 for at least 5 min. Then get off the highway, park somewhere and turn the car off. Wait 2 min, then turn the car on and get back on the highway doing 60 or more for 5 min. If it doesnt come back on you should be ok. If it does, then you have a problem. Also the car needs to be fully warmed up before trying this.

if you are running monitors then it won't matter where you drive. usually it takes about 50 miles but that can vary from car to car. in california is acceptable to have 1 or 2 monitors be incomplete during smog (depends on your car). just drive it for a few days and go back. don't disconnect the battery or it will clear the monitors again.
