Default Replaced ECM now car will not stay running

I just replaced the ECM in my 07 tC that was in an accident. The car will start but not stay running.
The ECM is the same part number as the one that was in the car and is also from an 07.

Does the ECM need to be reprogrammed or reflashed if it is put into a different car than it was originally in?

Yes it does. Every ECM is VIN number specific so each ECM is basically keyed to that car. I had the same problem when I got a new one from being supercharged.

You need to take the car to the dealership and have your ECM re keyed to match your VIN aka your car

Do I need to bring the whole car to the dealer? Its not really in drivable condition right now, lol. Do you think they would be able to reprogram it if I just bring the computer? I want to make sure the car runs fine and the engine is still good before I do the body work on the car.

No, they must have the car there. They basically need to make the car talk to the ecm so you need it at the dealership

I need the instructions for reprogramming also. Scion tC 2007 manual trans.

I've changed out my ECM and it wouldn't start. I'm still using my old one. The old one is OK with the exception of my A/C clutch not working. I had the ECM loose after testing the new ECM and #2 cylinder would start missing. checked all connections on the ECU and haven't had a problem for 6 months.
I'm back a totally dead #2 and ready to get A/C and #2 back by installing reprogramming the new ECM. Reading the thread, I would like the instructions. My local Toyota dealer said they could do it but didn't and starting to do diagnostics instead. They didn't charge me because they didn't do what I had
asked them to do, replace and reprogram.
