THE Short Throw Shifter Thread
#601
So, I went from the NST SSK, to the Dr. Isoptope SSK with 1/5" and cage risers. I have no complaints. I thought it was going to be too low with the shifter by itself, with the risers, it was just right a.k.a. the goldilocks zone. I don't have much problem with the NST SSK except that with its 30% drop in length of shift, it isn't best for 1/4mile racing. Good for road racing and daily, but thats it. The Dr. I shifter install was fairly easy. Easy still because I had a buddy that had already installed two help me. Best thing you can do is tape up the holes below the shifter so nothing falls through and remove the shifter housing to do the withdarw of the old shifter, and install of the new shifter.
Over all, the switching to the Dr. Isoptope, which is closer to a 55% reduction from stock, is a good move. With the 0" reduction and the risers it should be near stock height, but its perfect for me with the 1.5" reduction with the 3/4" risers.
Stock Shifter (removed)
Dr. Isotope 1.5" Reduction with 3/4" Risers:
9 out of 10.
If I had gotten the premium package that included the cage, would have gotten an overall 10.
On a side note, within a week of sending the core back, I got my $40 core refund.

Perrin install in 2005 Xa
The Perrin instructions mention that the Cage will need to be trimmed, but, the instructions I have references some figures that are missing. I know that the bottom right bolt area needs to be trimmed. Does anyone have pictures or know where else the trimming is required? Is it where the cables mount up front?
Thanks,
Rob

If you install our Stage 2 shifter kit onto the B&M bushings, everything will be fine. You don't need to change anything and I'm sure you'll love the feel of our shifter!

I got my Doctor Isotope 2 inch reduction and cable bushings installed by the man himself today!
It only took 25 minutes! and it only cost 100 bucks.
The shifting is a bit stiff but he said it will loosen up in about two weeks or ill get used to it.. haha

I don't rem exactly because its been a while. But i was just about to go ahead and place my order for the TMW stage 2 shifter until I came across this thread. But from what I remember, some people had problems with the TMW braking in half, the cable bushings were not perfect (the shifter would wobble or w.e) basically the quality of there shifters was not overall great as doc I's were since his shifters were made originally from the stock shifters so the pivot ball would sit perfect which had caused the shifting to feel smooth, and it actually gave you 55% reduction from stock w/out any free movement....
