Default Sick of 5-speed tC clutch!

Ive been searching the posts for topics about this, im sure theyre out there, but i havent found em yet.

Am I the only one who is sick and tired of of the 5-speed tC's clutch/throttle setup? Ive had mine for 4 months now and I still havent gotten the hang of this clutch. Its entirely too "on/off" in its engagement, and theres no feeling to anticipate engagement either. Not to mention all of that dead play at the bottom of the pedal travel. A buddy of mine who grew up on a farm and learned standard transmissions when he was 13 years old kept stalling off the line in my tC. Thats rediculous! Im not sure what the point of this post is, maybe just to vent, but does anyone have some ideas? There are tons of people on these posts with 5-speed tCs, how do u people work it to get it smooth? Thanks for listening to my b***ing.

practice practice and more practice

I for one, do not feel like the tC's clutch pedal is on and off, its something that needs to slip smoothly. It does take time to get used to. Just keep practicing and try to forget bad habits.

I tell you what. A lot of people have said how the clutch and throttle is not too good and hard to pin-point the engagement and yada yada yada.

My friend owns a WRX (5-speed) and has driven that for about a year and a half. The day I picked up my car, I let him drive to see how it is. He said it was sooooo easy and the entire drive was smooth as silk.

It took me a month to get the hang of the clutch. I was driving Hondas before and you can defiantly tell the difference between the two

my dad stalled the tC, haha, but from driving my friends 240sx, and other friends 94 celica, the tC's clutch engagement it does seem higher.

Went from driving the easiest-to-drive Saturn to the tC and picked it up in a two weeks. My friend went from a Bobcat turbo diesel with a clutch throw of about a yard and he picked it up in about a week or so. Different people learn at different speeds but you get used to it. Just take a deep breath and welcome to the future of the manual transmission. It's all downhill from the first entry level car with tiptronic was introduced.

I dont have problem about stalling. My problem is the throttle delay especially when down shifting from 3rd to 2nd or 2nd to 1st (rev matching works sometimes). I think there's something to do with the climate too because sometimes i shift very smooth and sometimes too jerky. I also noticed that wearing shoes that have thick soles affect your driving I think drive by cable is still better than drive by wire.

Yeah but with cable you can flood the engine if you step on the gas without it running. Did that in an 85 mercury, donno if it was carbeurated though, don't think so.

i also kinda think it's to on an off but it gives it a sporty feel. but after 3 months of owning my tc i'm still not smooth all the time, and i've been driving manual for a couple years now. sometimes i like how on and off it is but sometimes it bothers me.

I hate the clutch/transmission in my xB and everybody on here thinks I'm crazy. I'm not going to go into detail because I don't want to hear everybody else's stories but it just doesn't work for me.

I can't wait until I can afford a GTI (I'll be keeping the box duhhh lol) DSG 6 speed paddle shifting FTW!

I found a post by sdparks about installing a longer clutch stop to get rid of the dead play in the pedal, im going to give it a shot...without extra pedal travel anticipating the engagement should be easier

feather the throttle and slip the clutch easily and you will get it down.

haha i remember my first few weeks with the car, i was sooooo bumpy while shifting. after a month it got smooth. eventually you'll smooth out. just like they said, it takes different timing for different people.

I kind of disagree. My brother's 05 WRX is smoother but clutch pedal is heavier. My brother recently drove my car for the 1st time and he stalled. He's been driving stick for 8 years. I think the tC clutch is ok in terms of smoothness..... but the throttle delay/gas pedal play makes it tough.
I had the engagement point changed on an old Honda and it was only about 3/4 inch off the floor and the clutch would be at the engagement point. But there may be some ill effects to that.

Well I always have seen the tC clutch as being in between a performance clutch and a regular everday model. Because it does catch a little different than some. It reminds me of the new mustangs clutch its right around there...

The only thing I would say is just keep practining because if you were to change it it would have an even smaller catch point.

That certainly makes it strange then. My friend did not even mention any delay or complained about the engagement point. In fact, he first drove it when I got my butt stuck on an incline at a stop light. He never stalled or even got close to stalling. Pulled out of there easy and just kept saying how easy it was.

I don't know, I can barely notice any delay. I have gotten down driving now I just need to fine tune-it so I can make every shift smooth and not jerk a little.

mm... I dont think it's the delay in engagement point. Every car is different in that area. I was mentioning the throttle delay.... meaning the gas is lightly pressed down and nothing happens. At 1st I found it odd but I also feel it's just practice. The clutch overall for a daily driver is fine IMO.
