Or the gear ratio difference (0.197). I don't know why you're still kicking around ideas; 3rd gear is the gear to use if you want to accelerate from 55mph, not 4th. You were in the wrong gear. Plain and simple.

Purely for science, try accelerating from about 15mph in 3rd gear all the way up to 78 on some deserted country highway. You'll notice that it's stupid slow up until about 45-50, and then it's like the engine wakes up and takes off, and that's because around 45-50 up to about 70 in it's rev band is when the gear can rotate most efficiently. Same with 4th gear, but because of the gear ratio's, 45-50 is below it's band. I believe 4th kicks in at about 65-70.

is there any way to get around the middle man thing with the throttle? anyway to better it or get around it? i know in a mini cooper you push the sport button and it goes throttle to engine not throttle to computer to engine. i also ive read up on my buds mazda 3 and if you enlarge the ground wire for the throttle body controls or something like that and instead of grounding it to the frame extend the wire to the negative battery terminal for better ground and better gauge wire and ppl were getting better throttle response and felt more power.

i could have sworn you guys said back in the day our POWER GEAR is 3rd gear!!!!!!????

remember we have short gear ratios for economy driving. if your going 55mph thats the max of 2nd gear, and the beginning of 3rd gear. obviously your 4th gear is useless at this speed so you either hit 5th gear to move along traffic or 3rd gear to race off.

learn about your car before you complain and mess up your own car. i had girl friends whose been driving a manual for several years and still dont know how to use a manual properly, and she's been through 4 manual cars and all had broke down and she claims the clutch is "too hard".

lol well when i down shift from 5th to 4th ...i get alot of power out of mine

oh wait

turbo ftw haha

there ya go if your going to complain that your not getting enough out of a down shift ... fricken turbo the _____

the end of story right there

or use some nitrous! and then say WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO VTACH JUST KICKED IN YO ...its like come on

its a stock tc its not a race car ... like everyone says if its not good enough for you ...go with 3rd gear down shift .... and your doing something wrong because downshifting at 55 to 4th gear should get you moving well enough ... 3rd would kick your ****!
