What he said about the maf is absolutely true! I installed an Injen CAI and the K&N filters oil got on my maf at 18K miles making me think I had bad gas it took me some time to figure it out. I never cleaned the filter yet from the factory because it wasn't dirty yet, just the factory oiling of the filter made it to my MAF giving it false readings.

Yeah, the spark plugs weren't the problem. I installed the spark plugs from Toyota and still had some idle shaking. So I bought some of the sensor cleaner and cleaned that and it seems to have solved the problem.

Thanks much man for all the advice...any other tips on what I should do to help maintain/ensure a well driven well taken care of car at 100k?

-oil changes and tire rotation every 5k miles
-MAF sensor clean every 13-15k miles
-Spark Plug change every 100k
-?
-?

I would think the timing belt is next...any ideas on when that can be?

yeah like i was saying earlier i thought it was something else, good thats all it was, was a dirty MAF sensor.

Also. THERE IS NO TIMING BELT on this engine, only a timing chain, you dont replace it, unless it broke, they're supposed to last a long time.

Couple of things
If you have issues with hesitiation or lack of power
-every 15k a can of BG Products 44k fuel cleaner in the empty gas tank, fill up, run that through to clean the injectors. but get an oil change after that runs out. just to be safe.

Spark plugs? 100k miles? most of us would say 60k miles at the most.

Another overlooked item is the pcv valve. Every 60k miles. The location of that is the valve cover.

Change the brake fluid every 30-40k miles

Drain and fill (NO flushing!) the radiator with new coolant, every 30-45k miles

Drive belt every ??? that i don't know how long that might last.. someone else could comment. I'd say every 40-45k miles.

Correct me if I am wrong but I don't every remember seeing a PCV valve on a tC.

Drain and refill radiator with correct fluid and use distilled water only - do not flush just completely drain and refill with the correct coolant and distilled water. you won't have any issues with corrosion if you do this, but when you start using tap water then the corrosion starts.

Replace manual transmission fluid every 30k I would say

Replace automatic transmission fluid 30K would be safe

flush brakes with clean fluid every 30-45k

Timing chain every 100k or so unless you hear the chain making noise then sooner

a lot of it is a mix between what Toyota recommends and personal preference.

Drive belt 30k would be safe.

on the valve cover, upper left (passenger side of the car as you stand in front of the car and look at the engine), that's where the pcv valve is. screwed into the cover.

I remember reading that the transmission fluids never need to be changed on the TC.... or is it just safer to do so? apparently it's listed as lifetime...??!

^^ big question is WHO'S lifetime? The warranty or how long you plan to keep the car. Be safe never believe that "lifetime" joke of a claim and change the fluid.
