on another note, my CAI seems to be bumping the metal on the opening to the fender, mainly during initial start-up and shut-down. I did put the rubber trim over the opening so it is actually hitting against that, but I'm sure over time it'll wear through. Any suggestions to maybe brace the piping at this location so it wont bang anymore?

Man I am glad someone posting a topic about this... cause I just removed my intake, thinking it was something serious I was about to take it to the dealer. But I guess once the weather clears up its goin back in and maybe a little fabrication of a silencer or somethin.

I actually used a thick rubber gasket from Lowes (hardware store) plumbing section that had a bit of a "L" shape to the lip. It fit PERFECTLY in the hole and there is 0 movement with the CAI. It allows for just enough flex while keeping it from rattling. Hope that helps.

Sho-nuff...I just snapped these. Pardon the dirty engine bay, haven't cleaned it all winter.

Here you can see the rubber gasket that came with the CAI was placed over the firewall opening top and bottom, and larger pipe washer was placed around the pipe and slid into place with it. The part you don't see is the bottom of the "L" lip running under the edge of the hole. It holds firm, and although there is some cracking visible (had to stretch the heck out of it to get it on) I shouldnt have to replace it for a couple of years.

I didnt, all I did was removed the driver side wheelwell(don't have to remove it completely) jacked the car up on the driver side so I would have better access to it, thats all.

Ok, so, would everyone still recommend the Injen CAI? I see a lot of resentment about some things and mine's going to be here for this weekend's isntall... I just don't want to regret it once it's on.

the VSV comes on and off as it needs to.... it's gonna tick... regardless of CAI or not (for those asking about the TRD CAI thing a few posts up..) and yes... from my understanding it does have to do with temp.

it's not a problem... it's just doing it's job...

The install was a pain the toosh, but now that it's over I'm glad I did it. The CAI sounds great (haven't heard the ticking at all, obviously due to temp and it's HOT in Dixie right now...) and looks great, too (minus some installation scratches). I used some foam pads and electrical tape to prevent vibration where the tube enters the fender. Foam allows a lot of flex but no rattles/wear.

All in all, very pleased.
