Default Tranny swap vs Building Auto ?

hey well i have a turbo tc but with the auto tranny and im just wondering a few things:

tranny swap vs building the auto.

A) What would be more efficient for me and less problematic?
B) What would be less costly?

1) What are you trying to do with your car? Speed or overall show
2) How much sound do you want to do. if you go high end audio you have spend alot more than a tranny....

well, look, the automatic transmission wasn't built for performance, it sucks, blows and swallows.

if you want performance, your not going to find it with the auto. and doing a transmission swap is no simple matter. it is expensive and complicated and there are many things that can go wrong.

if it is a show mod, then your fine, it can hold up to about 250 whp.

yeah, fastest drag race cars are automatics, but get this, the tC isn't a drag race car. the automatic transmission wasn't built for it. and the gear ratios suck.

so look, unless the car was purpose built from the ground up to be a 9 second dragster, but regular cars with automatic transmissions are just built for people who are too stupid or lazy to shift gears themselves (exageration).

wow thats pretty hurtful.. i drive an auto cuz it would be pretty stupid to own a manual in bumper to bumper traffic everymorning on i95 to work and back. its retarded. and ya im lazy and im proud of it.. why shift a car when u can build it to be just as fast without shifting .. and btw slapping a torque converter on there with the tranny built = just as fast shifting as a stick i was told from Level 10.

i did a tranny swap a while back and it's holding up perfectly till now. no problems whatsoever.

i was in the same situation as you, but nobody helped me and gave me the whole "trade in your auto for a manual" or "its too expensive" kind of rant. i did extensive research and found 2 other people that did tranny swaps on their tC's, and they were kind to help me out AND they had the experience.

picture it this way, if you're really motivated to make your car faster by adding some other stuff to it other than a tranny swap, then do it.. if you just wanna swap your tranny just to have bragging rights that you have stick, then it's not worth it IMO. i did a tranny swap because I got a a turbo kit.. very well worth it. but things came up and i had to remove and sell the kit. but anyway, do what you want man.. if you have the funds, then do it. i spent 1500+ on everything including parts AND labor.. and that's with an upgraded clutch and flywheel.. that's pretty much a steal for me.

if you continue with this project.. just hit me up and ill help you out throughout the process.

i like my full bolt-on N/A auto and plan on going S/C instead of turbo because of the slippage and just boosting it up to 9psi with water-meth injection, port-n-polishing the heads, 550cc injectors with AEM Fi/C and i guess that is about it for me because it's is very rare to find a shop that can do the tranny swap for you because our cars are all computerized and stuff which like for example civic's and integra's don't have all of those things which is why labor is cheaper and easier to do a swap than what it would be for our cars.

oh my bad.. i jsut realized you DO have a turbo kit.

well I was able to get my tranny swap for 1500 total because i mostly got lucky. At my local junkyard, which is also the best place to get a tranny, a wrecked tC came in the week before and was an '07 that only had like 500+ miles on it (I checked the gauge cluster) and i was able to take the WHOLE setup home with me for $800 flat. I had a transmission shop that specializes in tranny swaps do the swap for another 800 including a custom staged clutch/ flywheel from them AND labor so everything cost me about 1500-1600.

there is one out here in LA that takes out the tranny for you. the name of the place is called 'Toyota World' and they are in Sun Valley so you can search for them and get the number to call them.
