TRD Air Filter: Worth it or not?

TRD Air Filter: Worth it or not?
i've read some posts and topics on here about the trd air filter and i really haven't noticed a majority of opinions for or against it. both sides seem pretty close so i hope to clear things up for myself with this thread. i am tired of waiting for the aem cai, i don't want a different company's cai, and i have about $50 to spend, so is it worth it at all to get the trd air filter? i know it's not comparable to a cai but does it do enough or anything, other than lasting forever, to justify getting one? are there any hp gains at all? will it make my trd exhaust louder?

I'm not sure how the cai would be much better than the filter. Both offer less restrictino, and the stock air box is already drawing air from a cold area of the bay. Performance wise, I doubt any noticeable difference, but looks wise... well you can't tell if it's a trd filter or a $8 oem filter.

Changing your filter will not give you any performance gains. The CAI hardly gives you any gains, but it sounds really nice. I just recently baught and installed the K&N CAI and hardly noticed a performance gain. Point being, your not gonna get much as far as performance. If your gonna get an intake get it for the sound.

i would really rather have a cai because at least you get a little gain and i really do like how they sound. i'm just a little nervous about having one that isn't sold by the dealer and something goes wrong with the engine or something and just my luck somehow it will be blamed on the cai. also, i like how the aem one is supposed to have a water cut off valve so that if somehow it got submerged in a big puddle or something like that it wouldn't suck up water into the engine. do the k&n or injen ones have the water cutoff valve? also, are the k&n and injen intakes the only ones to choose from?

I like my cold air, but before that I had a borla drop in (i think its the same as the trd with a different name on it) noticed a slight change with it on there. Actually if anyone wants that drop in its yours for free just hit me up. It's pretty much brand new, maybe 2 weeks use. save ya a bit of money if you're going for one of those.

i think you should just wait for the CAI.
advantages of trd air filter:
1. reusable air filter
2. increased throttle response
3. very little, if any, hp increase(personally did not notice a difference)
advantages of CAI
1. should have similar/or better throttle response than the drop in
2. actual hp gains.
3. im pretty sure the cone filter will be reusable
4. looks better the stock air box
you can use the AEM bypass valve with just about any CAI. you can purchase it separately for like about $50(well, the last time i checked) it comes in various sizes so you will have find the correct size for your application.
