So long story short. I installed a Fujita CAI and it threw a CEL 15 miles later. I've recently purchased a TRD CAI. Met a Toyota tech at a party and said that the TRD CAI should correct itself,
I did the whole disconnect negative battery and later let the car run for 10 minutes after install.
It's still throwing a CEL around 8-15 miles. My question is, will Toyota honor my warranty if I take my tC in and replace my MAF sensor? Keep in mind that I purchased the intake from an acquaintance and installed myself.

Any info would help greatly...

No because the TRD CAI is a sport part and does not have join the warranty of the car, it just has a parts warranty against manufacturer defect.

so the cold air intake does not have any warranty (on the tC, xB's are different) and you installed it yourself which means Toyota can assume that you screwed the pooch and messed up your own MAF sensor.

first off find out what code you're throwing and start there.

oh, and for the record, whether it is a TRD, Fujita, Injen, AEM, K&N, or whatever brand CAI (minus eBay brands) proper install shouldn't cause a CEL. so it is pretty much on the installer if you get a CEL.

Anybody know if a 2008 MAF sensor fits on a 2009 tC? I purchased a 2007 MAF sensor and that thing is huge and the orientation is different... I just want to make sure before I purchase it for cheap rather than the dealership.

only the 05-06 are different from the rest, 07 and up are a different design after that.

have you confirmed that the MAF sensor is the problem? if you unplug the MAF sensor, does the car run the same or worse? if the MAF sensor was the problem, the car would be running like crap.

Does the intake not carry the same 12 month / 12k mile warranty as other TRD parts when installed yourself?

Given you're sort of disguising the initial problem by putting on a TRD intake instead of just addressing the issue with the Fujita. They are decent intakes so if you had a problem with that, it would have been better (IMO) to seek help for that issue first.

I thought i made it clear earlier, but yes, the TRD CAI has a warranty on itself, the intake itself has a warranty for 1 year, but even if the TRD CAI messes up the MAF sensor, that is no covered because of the TRD CAI.

It isn't like the the TRD Supercharger was, when you bought it new and had it installed by a dealership, it was completely covered by your powertrain warranty, but the TRD CAI is not warrantied like that.
Even if the CAI could be part of the powertrain warranty, it would have to be installed by a dealership to work, which it wasn't in this case.

So I took it to Autozone and it didn't help. The scanner read error on multiple occasions and could not pull the CEL code. Any thoughts???

thats retarded. if you have a check engine light, it should be able to pull the code right out. i have a scangaugeII and i can pull up a code in seconds if i have a check engine light.

how is the car actually running? if it is running fine, just go and double check your work on the cold air intake, and make sure everything is installed right. then disconnect the battery to reset the ecu, reconnect, and start the car, let it idle for 10 minutes. and carry on with life.

if the CEL comes back, go get it read again. but that is retarded, you can't throw a check engine light and not pull a code. are you sure it is the check engine light and not the mait req. light, or the tire pressurem monitoring light, or most recently,i think somebody mixed the low washer fluid light with the CEL somehow?

its probably a P0101. make sure theres no leaks anywhere after the MAF. and everything is tight.
also check if the MAF sensor is not seated right.

i don't think we do, i think somebody with an xD in this thread thought he had a CEL, and then he goes "oh wait, it is the low washer fluid light or whatever.

lol, i was going to say i didnt think we had one, but my car still has the same fluid it came with from the dealer when I bought it 2 years ago

really? you sure about that? unless you absolutely never use your washer nozzles, chances are that wherever you get your oil changed (unless you do it yourself) they usually top off fluids like washer fluid as a courtesy. so...it isn't the same by now.

^^I never use it unless just for a sec, I always check under the hood after they change the oil and I have never seen any signs that they did but it is defiantly possible. I just have never seen it full since I bought it

Okay so I finally had time to go to Autozone and get the code. It's throwing a P0441. I've been doing some researching and it doesn't have to do with the MAF sensor...right? I recently switched to a TRD CAI.

Toyota will honor this fix correct?
