It originally came because a lot of exhausts were routed through the center area of the under-carriage. With as little amount of bends as possible, one basic bend at the end still put the muffler in the same general area as the stock location, but with as much flow efficiency as possible. Angled exhausts that ADD bends just to keep the angle look is somewhat useless. It has less performance (slight but you get the idea) and you risk fitment issues on some cars.

We are lucky and it isn't just a look for us. Toyota ran the mid section (slightly off but close enough) through the center area. The angled pipes help minimize bends and add performance. It also looks nice on our cars seeing how we have such a wide, kick-___ wheel base.

TRD exhaust is nice sounding, but there are much better performince exhausts out there, HKS of course being one of them.

I agree that the TRD exhaust has really nice sound to it. It sounds even more badass once the car has warmed up to norm. operating temp.

I have and love the TRD but the guy across the street has a TC w/ a PEP BOYS SPECIAL on it and IMO sounds like a hunk of DOINK! RATTLEY-FARTY type sound

Question?
I am probably going to go with the TRD exhaust...since i guess the catback on isnt that big of a difference.....Anyway if i get a CAI with the TRD axle back will this help that type of exhaust of still no difference??? and will it make the exhaust sound worse meaning more fart canish???

A customer came up to the shop with the TRD exhaust last week, and it sounded really good. That was the only mod he had at the time. I personally went with the HKS, and along with the K&N intake I have, I must say I am extremely happy. The HKS also sounds great, and is pretty cheap compared to most of the other exhaust systems out. Also, we set the HKS, GReddy EVO2, and Injen exhaust all down lined up next to each other, and the HKS piping wins hands down. It has the least number of bends, and most direct path. So if there is any slight difference in HP between the systems, HKS would have to beat GReddy and Injen on that point alone. Havent seen the path for the TRD, but I doubt it's as streamlined. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

It doesnt matter what axle back you get, you will not see a difference in hp at all. The only thing I would take into consideration is whether you will be installing a header in the future. A lot of people on this site have complained that the TRD exhaust sounds like ___ with a header.

I was wondering what the lowest price is for the TRD Exhaust. Also, how tough is the installation (ie: how long does is take, any mods needed)? Thanks in advance!
