Default TRD vs K&N drop-in Air Filter

I haven't found a dedicated post to this, so i'm interested in what people have to say.

Which is a better drop-in air filter? TRD or K&N?

Also, where did you get it and for how much $$???

P.S. This is not a bashing/debate thread over whether or not it helps/hurts, etc. There are other threads for that. Just looking for opinions of people who actually have one

Thanks!

OK, so far only 2 votes for the TRD and 0 for the K&N. The TRD seems more expensive - anyone know where is a good place to get one?

Anyone know how often it should be cleaned and if I have to buy the air filter cleaning kit? Someone plz help me out here

There is a post dedicated solely to the K&N air filter that is 3 pages long:

There are obviously people that know about it, where are they??

drop in filter really needs cleaning like it says, 50K (at least that's what K&N says), I agree after having cleaned it after 50K (about 3 yrs), and it looked pretty clean...

i got a k&n. i'm sure they're probably almost identical in every way shape and form.

COmparing drop in filters is like comparing something that you shouldn't really waste your time thinking about but i can't think of anything else rite now.

Just get whatever you can find cheaper. Pep boys or Auto Zone etc... will prob have the K&N.

TRD airfilter is basically a "rebadged" K&N filter, virtually identical.
The way I think of it, it wouldn't make a noticable difference either way unless u go CAI.
I'm not even gonna attempt to clean it @ 50K instead just buy a new one...

I hear you guys, yet more people say they would go for the TRD. I'm leaning toward the K&N because it is like $15 cheaper online and like you all said, it is the same thing. Any reason anyone would choose TRD over K&N since more voted for that one?

Lets get some more votes guys...for whatever reason you may like one over the other, lets just see some more votes...I know he said I shouldn't think too much about this but I am torn!! lol

Any reason for chosing TRD over K&N since it's more $$? Does TRD have any benefit?

I think people are TRD ******, and if it says TRD they will buy it. There is no data that i have seen that states one out performs the other, i got mine from martell brothers. It was 36.00 shipped "I think".
I agree with it being a rebadged K&N, but since this is a passive moddification and that there is no loss either way.....

get the K&N, its less.........
but if you think TRD is going to rock your world because of the name get the TRD.
I have a k&N and i have ridden in a Tc with a TRD, there was no difference......
and besides its hidden who really cares, you could have a new fram power filter or whatever its called and you would still not notice a real difference

Agreed. As long as there is no difference between the two, i'd rather pay less for the one without the logo than pay more for the logo that nobody will see anyway. Nor do I need people to see a logo to make myself feel good! haha

Thanks for the info kilo, especially since it's 1st-hand

It's been said, but I've had both. There's no difference, aside from maybe color.

They're both great filters.

Yea, that looks like the best price for the TRD. Best price for the K&N looks to be at martelbrothers. $36

Question: Does anyone know if it is wise to disconnect the battery (negative) after a TRD or K&N air filter is put in (as to adjust to the somewhat changed level of air being sent to the engine (the sensors))?
