Umnitza's CarbonWerks Intake...2 Pics and Video!
Well, I got to admit that I was skeptical about this product because I thought all these guys at Umnitza knew was Bimmers. Anyway, are a couple of pictures of the carbon fiber intake that was installed and tested on my tC last Saturday. Must I say that this thing is just plain out beautiful! Very well-made; it's of high quality, not those wanna-be carbon fiber products stuff that are out there on the market. Fittment was perfect, except we had to use an M3 bracket to bolt it into place. However, when the final product will be done, in about a week or so, it will include the correct bracket. The power was felt, not because of the deep growl, but because you can actually feel it in your seat and I made sure it wasn't mental. With the blip of the throttle, I felt the power increase, and that was without the growl. It was a pretty hot day too. And with the deep growl, it just sounded like a totally different car.
I was told that the intake will start at $199. Maybe a little cheaper for introductory price???
It uses a blue cone filter inside the box, and there are two openings where air enters-1) from the front where you see that opening in the front of the box. 2) where it utilizes the stock piping from the fender. The opening on this side of the intake box is huge.
I was told the average gain was 8~10hp.
It uses the stock hose to the throttle body. This is not a bad thing because the stock hose consists of plastic/rubber which are excellent materials to dissipate heat. I think if the company were to add a pipe from the inake to the throttle body, it would cost more to make and therefore up the sale price of the intake. I dunno, a new pipe would be cool, but I like how everything blends in with the rest of the engine. And as I said, the plastic/rubber hose to the throttle body is efficient enough as they resist heat really well.
And no, I don't have an aftermarket exhaust. My car is all stock.
I'm not sure about a strut bar/intake combination. I was thinkin about getting a strut bar, I'm getting back to Matt at Umnitza about this.
I was the test car, so we installed the prototype. Install is quite simple, the stock air box took about 5+ minutes to take out. As for the whole install, I'd say about 15-30 minutes? We took pics throughout the installation, so yah. Just have to be really careful with the MAF sensor!
The intake does use the stock piping inside the fenderwell, as well as the stock piping from the throttle body to the intake.
Unfortunately, we did not have a chance to run the dyno. Waiting for the final products to come in. I think the intakes will be in in the next week or so. I recommend to place orders now, though. I have a feeling some of these will be on back-order.
