Sounds to me if it is doing it under load that is a bottom end issue. If there is excess valve lash it would be a constant noise and would only vary in frequency in time with the RPM's. One test you can do is pull the car up to some wheel chocks (a wall would be safer) and put a load on the motor. I assume that you have a manual, so feather the clutch under load while listening, if the "clacking" is much louder under load than it is in neutral reving, my guess is going to be the noise is from your bottom end. From the sound of the video, I am leaning towards a wrist pin bushing on one or more of the rods.

Ill definitely check that out. The sound is coming from the left side of the valve cover sounds like it coming from the top 2 valves when I took my valve cover off. With that description you gave me about bottom end damage, can that happen when my car is NA? If it can, what circumstances should I have gone through to have bottom end damage? Thanks for the info, lots of it!

may sound somewhat similer but i havnt had that happen, just an idea i came accross becouse some people with s/c's have had that problem (i understand your na but just a thought). Should be simple to check though, see if you can shake it with your hand, if there is play in it then it could be it. your (tic) sounds louder than i would expect from a faulty pulley so its a small chance but easy to check. iv only heard of one person that had a tensioner pulley going bad (bearings going out or something to that effect) and they had the trd s/c. everyone els that had the trd normally had shaft bearing problems so you dont have any worries there...lol

Haha no prob. I used to be SC but uninstalled it about 2-3 months ago. This problem happened while I was NA. I'm ready to SC again, just wont install it till I get this problem fixed haha.

So I havent had any free time to check the valves yet because i'm slaving at my job and havent had a day off yet. But can someone post a link/picture of what the valve shims on our cars look like so I can see what to inspect for? Thank you guys for contributing in the effort of getting my shims renewed! Haha.

Haha yeah I completely understand that. I just sent an inquiry about it, and they responded they dont know what to do at this point cause they dont have speakers. So I kinda gave up on asking them.
