Default Valve Tapping ? ! ?

Usually hear it at about 3.5 - 4 k RPM's. Like a metal clicking noise coming from the engine compartment. I spoke to a freind and he said it could be valve tapping and that since we have VVT-i it can be adjusted? Iam really not sure. Is this bad? Anyone else experiencing anything like it?

Mine does it too...Sounds more like cam followers tapping than a valve tap—if it is the cam follower then there is nothing to worry about and nothing you can do about it.

If you really think it is valve tapping then take it to the service dept and have them look at it. That isn't true about the not being able to adjust it. Its a diffrent adjustment on the TC not like typical valve adjustments. You actually have to remove the cam to do the valve lash adjustment on the TC.

With a solid lifter setup (which I am fairly sure the 2az runs) you can expect to hear more rattles and tapping from the valve train. If you are concerned, take it to the service dept and have em check it. Cant hurt to have it checked

Wanna complain about loud lifters? You guys shoulda heard my old `93 Maxima SE (DOHC V6). They had a defect in the variable timing cam that relieved oil pressure in the cam which lead to noisy lifters, oh was that a pain in the ___ to deal with...it was so freakin loud it sounded like someone tap dancing on a loud speaker.

I heard the same type of taping sound coming from the engine bay, but i would hear it at idle. i took it in to the dealer and they had to replace a belt tensioner. this was at like 8000 miles. since then, to tapping.

No its like a clicking noise and the harder i hit the gas the louder it gets... i start hearing it at about 3.5 - 4 rpms.... my car is bone stock... Iam guessing its the valves or something in the engine. If it was a vibration i would not always hear at the same rpm.

^^ everything has a resonant point, so it is very possible to always here a vibration at the same rpm if that is the point of resonance for the item in question. I am still guessing valve train noise, which to some degree is normal.

its probably that thing with the green cap and orange tag on it that you attach to the intake. It was screwed onto the stock one. Not that its attached to metal the sound carried alot more.
