Default What happens when you hit Redline?

Ive never been close to hitting redline, but I always wondered. Are you able to rev higher than the 6200 RPM redline? If there is a rev limiter, what happens when you hit it? How often does everyone get close to redline? I think the highest Ive ever revved it is maybe 4500-5000 and Ive only done that maybe 4-5 times in 35000 miles. Let me know about your High Revving experiences.

No, It'll just bounce off repeatedly.... Nothing happens like an engine explosion... unless......

Ive hit the rev limiter a few times no biggie just don't hold down the gas once it hits it.. then you'll have problems.

I believe your ECU takes note of each time you hit the limiter.

you can hold down the gas when you hit redline. The ecu just cuts fuel and ignition alternating cylinders. You won't do any damage but you will feel the engine cutting out or a loss of power so it doesn't damage itself.

What happens when you hit redline? the engine goes -
VREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

At this time, you will want to let off the gas.
Your car needs more of a Rahhhhhhh than a VREEEEEEE.
VRE = bad
Rah = good

I usually hit redline about twice a month because everybody in my city drives under every speed limit that exists.

I have noticed though that if the AC is turned on and the car is floored (Automatic tranny), that the takes longer to approach redline but when it reaches, if in WOT, the car will NOT switch into a higher gear unless you let off the gas.

I have had the car with AC on stay at 6200 for a good complete 2.x seconds when i realized what it was doing.

It doesn't matter though. I'm planning on turbo-ing pretty soon anyways. If the engine were to give out, then that would be the good time to go ahead and replace all the internals anyway.

Too funny ... based on your driving habits I am not so sure that this would be a good idea.

it'll be ok, trust me. I got plenty of money put aside for a whole new car if necessary.

Oh yeah you know it. The greatest game yet. i get a chance every once and a while to play still. Cant wait for III though.

So why do you think that your engine is damaged, the way that you treat it?

oh, hehe, i never consider it damaged, i'm just sayin that in an unlikely event that the engine "MAY" give out, i'm financially capable of compensating for damages and would even upgrade it at that point.

UT - i haven't been able to play any of em in over a year! Whenever i did have time, i'd have my ___ handed to me like i was standing still. I get into an environment and every opponent is either snipering as soon as i spawn, or constantly jumping all over the place and i can't focus. I know i had at one time played for about 45 days straight, about 3-5hrs a day and i was finally getting better but unless i do that all the time, i get terrible again.

i bounced off the limiter a couple times recently... it was annoying since i wasnt paying attention and if you shift immediately after hitting the limiter it takes a split second for the car to respond to the throttle again

i typically floor 2nd gear getting onto the highway to about 6100 RPM then shift to 3rd or 4th depending on how much room i have to accelerate more, or if i even want to. (3rd to get to 80/90, 4th to stay around 65 then jump to 5th... 2nd gets to about 50)

its just too much fun how much faster the car responds at higher RPM...

im sure its fine as long as your engine is good and warm, thats what rev limiters are for anyways.

however if you downshift to a gear that will put your rpms OVER your redline, bad things can happen. like if your going 70 mph and downshift to 2nd gear, prepare for your engine to have serious problems.

WOOH I over revved to ~7500 one time on a misshift... Man I felt bad, but I had clocked maybe 8k miles since with no issues.,.. That was such a bad day though, I was worried that I had ruined it.

jiggaman (Maybe thats you from rosebum)?
