i kid, i kid lmao

ive heard of people misshifting and revving out to 8k and being totally fine. passed compression tests and valves were okay etc.
...I wouldn't take the risk... I usually shift at or around 4k (depending on traffic).

1-2 ~4k
2-3 ~4k
3-4 ~3.5k
4-5 ~3.5k

Don't ask.... lol

is it possible to red line with auto as a mistake as easily as it is with a manual?

I like quick short bursts of acceleration, when im on the freeway, whether if its merging, or just passing large big rigs to avoid sitting behind rock chip territory. When I accelerate, I do it in short bursts to avoid burdening the engine.

I thinking the needle goes up to 6k, its hard to read, it looks like the gears just shift automatically right at the redline point? or does the car actually allow it to sit in redline territory before the automatic transmission shifts?[/i]

Got first gear up to 7000rpm, over 1000 miles since then and it still is running fine. Have not done a compression test or anything though, need to soon

First off, I just want to point out that Nerdcore314 is attempting a resurrection on a dead thread from 2008 lol.

In all seriousness though, I have an 07 RS3 w/manual trans and I've redlined it a couple of times in 2nd, 3rd, and sometimes 4th trying to pass or highway merge and wanting to get every last second out of that gear before I shifted. (Time spent shifting and not accelerating is time wasted lol) I also have over 111K miles on this Engine and Trans and it's still running strong as far as I can tell.

(Now the Karma fairy will come out and shove those words up my @ss probably lol)
