Default What year motor will fit in '05 tC?

I need to replace a motor on my '05 and have been browsing forums and such with no complete answer, really. I've seen a few different debates on it.

I will be buying a salvage and taking the motor and some extra parts, depending on the shape. I am unsure as to what year will fit in mine without any extra mod. I have read up to '07 but also up to '10 with a belt switch, possibly? I cannot recall exact details. I have been looking for an '05 in BCP, but have been SOL lately. If I could fit '06 or even '08 with little to no mod, even in Sizzling Crimson (I have a ton of paint in that color) it would be excellent.

Any help would be amazing. I miss my car!

With no worries at all, you need an 05-06. With new ECU you need 07-10. What do belts matter if you are swapping the entire thing? You aren't keeping any old motor parts. There is nothing to worry about there. Your fuel system and transmission is all good with any motor from 05-10. Just with the new ones you need the ECU that came with it.

I was reading from what I believed to be maybe a belt just on the opposite side? I could be completely wrong but it steered me away a bit for a while, thinking we'd have run into problems. Then I read elsewhere the opposite. I was so confused LOL.

I'll stick with an 05-06 then. Thanks, again!

I'm not sure how much it would cost to switch an ECU or how much of a hassle it would be, but getting a newer engine with that would be tempting for me.. You might be able to find one with lower miles for cheaper. A friend of mine owns a Toyota dealership and he said they see the '05 and '06s in for engine swaps a lot but that the issue seems to have been fixed for the later models of that gen. Maybe it's worth looking into?

Oh no worries. I wasn't saying anything like that. I'm just letting you know you don't have to worry about any belts. Haha. I would shop for all six years of motors and just make sure you get the ecu if its 07-10. It's no biggie to get an ecu. They'll have it.

I'll definitely look into it. A lot of the salvage yards in the area i'm searching seem to sell these wrecked tC's for dirt cheap. I found an auction completed for an 09 for something like $550 when the car first died. Ridiculous.

Plus, my car had a little side damage to it and if I could find a salvage that was screwed on the opposite side, i'd be golden. Not to mention my stereo is effed and I need new wheels LOL.

I'll definitely look around and see what I can find :-)

Dang. $550 is nothing for a motor. That's crazy.

Well yeah, you gotta buy the motor from a salvage yard. Otherwise you'd be spending $5K on a new one. I know there have been plenty of guys selling their old motors on here assembled. Check it out. Otherwise, yeah, get someone to act as your agent and keep an eye out at auctions and junk yards.
