Default What's the best cat-back?

I know a little about cars and I saw a tC today. I was so thrilled with it that I'm going to get one. I read that the TRD exhaust is nothing more than a sound upgrade and I want both sound and performance. So I know I should get a cat-back and not an axle-back although I don't really know what the difference is.

With that said....which brand is the best? ZPI or Draxas? Also which system should I be looking to get?

Well, there is not alot of cat backs made for the tc yet, but there are some made from zpi, CC, and someone else i cant remember the name of the company, but you can do a search on it.

But no japanese company, like greddy, injen, jic, or any of them made one yet.....but i might be wrong.

what gains were realized with the ScionSpeed dual exhaust. Any links to pictures, I'm waiting on a decent Cat back exhaust before I start purchasing my turbo kit, and camcon VVT-i controller.

Scion Speeds? Is this a TRD product or a 3rd party? When is it coming out and how much will it run?

dual exhaust on a 4 cylinder isn't worth it. want the best gains? do your research, use the CORRECT DIAMETER PIPING and have it mandrel bent custom for your car.

I agree completely. There is no reason to go with a three inch cat back on an NA car. 2.5 inch is MORE then enough. I would like to see dyno charts showing a 3inch making more power then a 2.5 on these cars.

the creative compacts catback is awesome. i have that and i just got the zpi s-pipe also, which i haven't had a chance to install. definite nice gains and sounds pretty good also. it sounds like the trd until u get over let's say 3500 rpms-then it sounds better than the trd.

So I need to get a cat back and an s-pipe? Is an S-pipe the same as a down pipe?

oh and louder = better(as long as it's not higher pitched imo)

u should get an s-pipe. supposedly the stock s-pipe is extremely restricrive. look at like this-the exahust is 2.5" pipe, the stock s-pipe from the header is 2". u expand the exhaust piping, but didn't expand the s-pipe where the air starts flowing from. so yes, u def want to replace the stock s-pipe. btw, the s-pipe is a down pipe.

If you have a 2.5" cat-back you won't see _MANY_ gains (most likely negligible) just by upgrading the s-pipe. Most likely more of a mental than true gain... now combine that with several other mods and yes... you will see a difference.

What are these then? They all say cat-back and as far as i know the small section of piping after the cat is hollow so it wouldn't really make sence to cut it off just to weld on the same size back on. Or am i missing something here? just my loose change!!

Those all say cat back but they're really just pipes bolted on to the first flange possible after the cat which, evidently, is at the axle.

And uh, I'm sure all pipes are hollow..

The point would be cutting after the cat (since no flange exists there) and welding on a larger pipe. A more reasonable approach would be replacing the cat with a higher flowing one attached to a larger pipe so no cutting or welding would be needed.

pretty much all the exhausts net little to no gains, so i pick mine on sound quality and tone. for that, i like the TRD best.

LOL! Ok i walked into that one. But i meant there isn't a resonator or at least i don't think there's one. And the stock exhaust is 2 1/4 inch already and it's not a good idea to run anything bigger than 2 1/2 inch on a N/A car. So what would you really gain from a pipe thats 1/4 inch bigger. Probably little to nothing. Just my loose change!
